So after 9 pages of search results I didn't really find what I was looking for.

I have a Cat-Back and CAI, running a SCT canned tune. I want to get a custom tune but not sure what the best path to take is.

Find a local shop and have a Dyno Tune done? Not sure this would be worth the $$ with my minor mods.

I'm not sure how the whole custom tune via email works. Are they tailored to your mods or is it just a tune that is better than the canned tunes that come on the SCT?

My CAI is brand new to the market, so I'm pretty sure no one has done research to determine the best configuration for it. Does it even matter?

Need some help figuring out what to do.

 

Contact the mail-order tuners for details. For SCT you have Troyer, VMP, and 5 Star, off the top of my head. Troyer is the best, but he has a several month backlog.

What they do is get your PCM strategy and list of mods and work from there.

With a CAI, you may be running excessively lean with a canned tune. You do need a custom tune.

 

How do they get my PCM strategy? Does the SCT Tuner I have now capture info on how the truck is running today?

 

There's a sticker on the PCM with your "box code" and there's a "hex code" in the PCM, which the programmer can read out.

 

Order the programmer and tunes.

They send out the programmer.

Use the programmer to retrieve the hex code.

email them back the hex code.

They write the tunes and email them to you.

Use your computer and load them onto the programmer.

Use the programmer and load a tune into your truck.
