SUPERCHIP vs DIABLO CHIP
SUPERCHIP vs DIABLO CHIP
Can someone please tell me which is the better CHIP.
I am interested in a CHIP for my 99Expy 5.4 4x4. Mod to my truck
K&N Filter kit and dual exhaust flowmaster with rear exist under the trailer hitch.
I have talk to Danny at 2D's and his Diablo chip sounds good ?
I have also talk to Mike at F150nline.com and his Superchip sound
just as good if not better ?
I am still not sure which way to go?
I would like some feed back on this.
Did anyone really see any power gains from these's chips

Bigredexpy,
I pretty much doubt you'll get a fair response from this site as to who has a better chip. As you can see this site is pretty much only interested in supporting Superchips. You'll need to venture out to other forums and then make your decision. Kind of like getting a second (and third) opinion from another doctor. DiabloSport is a new company that has developed some really impressive stuff and from what I have heard, they have a lot more cool stuff coming out soon. To me, they seem to be the one most interested in developing new updated products. Times changes & technology changes. They're not interested in developing products that have been out since the "stone age".
As a new company there's many things against you. There's a lot of R&D expense, product expense, advertising & promotional expenses. There's even many competitors who are very quick to put them down and say bad things. What are they so nervous about? The competition should spend their time worrying about improving their own product rather spend their time knocking them.
Keep in mind, in a relatively short amount of time, DiabloSport has already made an impact. Maybe not all their programs perform better than their competitors, but I bet a lot of them do. I believe all the chip companies offer a 30 day trial period. Maybe you can take them up on that. Try them both and keep the one you like and return the one you don't. Good luck.

Hmmmm....
Well, I love my Superchip but that's something you've probably heard and read a ton of.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxthey may have a great product, I have no idea.
Also, compare where the chip makes gains. Superchip is throughout the power band. Plus it addresses shifting in a big way. Many chips only impact WOT. Superchip made my Expy soooo much more enjoyable to drive!
:EDIT:
Ok, let me jump out here and say, I used bad judgment. I've deleted part of this original post because I've realized (with the help of a couple of emails
) that I don't have enough information to have made those comments/observations, although not slanderous, based on something I *heard* and at this time can't be 100% sure about it. As I said in the original post, I may have been wrong. However, I don't want anyone feeling defensive or to give a false negative impression about a business based on what could be and according to an email I recieved, is 100% wrong. If I can learn more about my comments, I will repost to clarify if I see fit. Don't hold your breath though, I'm not going to spend much energy to jump back in here and offer myself up for battle. If you read the original, please erase your memory.
And, I apologize to those that I may have offended in any way, even the advertisers.

I believe this forum is entitled "Aftermarket--Computer Chips"
Although im a current user of the "Superchip-flipchip" I'm always interested in hearing about other performance chips.
Pro & cons, etc. So dont hold back. OT

I think the best thing to do is to talk to the people who are actually using the product, as that way, you get the impressions directly from those who spent their money and are using the product.
So far, most people prefer the Superchip hands down, and as jstang himself posted, he tried both and stuck with the Superchip.
We hope you're happy with whatever you decide on, BIGREDEXPY.

Checked on a Diablo Chip yesterday
So far, all I know, is that my code was "new" to them, but they seemed very eager to program a chip for me ... after they recieve the proper data.
They were so helpful and informative. I've heard positve feedback on both chips, when compared to each other, mainly that Superchip has better shift qualities ... and Diablo has a superior design (installs *in* the computer, not piggy-back style) and makes comparable power to the Superchip. I'm curious to see how it compares.

I use Superchips for several reasons, but mostly because of the good feedback on this forum and Mike T.'s Excellent customer service and follow-up...however...
...I have to agree with Old Timer here. I guess it's the same battle as the PC Processor chip...AMD v. Intel v. whoeverelse... Always want the best information on the latest benchmarks and performance data comparisons.
"Diablosport puts much more work into the small increments of programming so you feel more in the seat of the pants. SC(superchips) comes in much later in the rpm range."
This was an email from a distributor, salesman for diablosports. I think the best way is to take advantage of the 30 day return policy and try both! When you pit salesman against salesman, you just get the same info from both, just for opposite sides. People like Dogcam are excellent resources because they have tried both.
I myself still have not made a decision either. I really like the design of the diablo chip better, but I want more power and better shifts. Not sure if superchips just re-locates the power or actually makes more.

Buffalo,
Please make sure and email me or post to let me know what you thought of all the chips! Cool youve tried them all, I cant wait to see what you think of the diablosports. Sounds like a pretty cool chip. Power gains(advertised) that Ive seen are the same for the SC and the diablo, so I'm just looking for someones experiences! thanks for posting.

Nice sounding claim, and absolute crappola. The hex code doesn't lie, as one of my contacts at Diablo is fond of saying himself, and anyone who can read hex can quickly discover that for themselves just as we have, and as have numerous others looking at their programs. The truth of the matter is that nowhere in any of their marketing materials we've seen, or on their web site, nor in their discussions with us, is such a claim made by the manufacturer.
We have been in discussions with Diablo in the past, and here just very recently as well, just as we always check out any bonafide competitor's products. They do not make any such claims to me, which I find rather interesting, as they're trying to get us to pick up the line, which we may or may not do, time will tell. But then, I suppose thats the difference in talking directly to people in authority at Diablo who would actually be in a position to *know*. It's interesting, and to their credit I feel, that at no time have they ever made a claim to us that they were "better" in any way, or that they were making any more power, etc., etc. compared to Superchips, in their efforts to have us well-familiarized with their applications. I would think that if they were *ever* going to make such a claim, they would have with us, but they never have.
The fact of the matter is simply that they haven't had *time* to "put much more work into the small increments...", as they've only been making chips for 18 months, compared to 19 *years* for Superchips. The size of the technical & engineering staff that are actually working on these programs, developing them, between these two companies, doesn't bear that out either, not by a long shot. Knowing people in both companies as we do, this claim, as stated, is unsupportable.
As we've seen here on the message boards for months now, the proof is in the pudding, so to speak, and to date, the people that have tried both chips in the same vehicle, those with no preference, no agenda and no axe to grind, have all stated that they preferred the Superchip, right here on these message boards. Specifically, it's been said that the Superchip was felt to have a small edge in power, better overall driveability, and a substantial edge in transmission shift characteristics.
Everyone is more than welcome to determine that for themselves, and we hope that everyone is happy with whatever they decide to use, always. That is *exactly* what we do, and if Diablo was "superior", we'd be running their products in all of our vehicles instead of Superchips. We want to know who is doing the best job as well, which is why we check out our competitors, of course. We always have, and we always will. We've used their products on a number of vehicles, and see no advantage over the Superchip either on the street, when towing, or at the track.
And by the way, that's not to say that the Diablo is a "bad" product, not at all, nor do I mean to imply that in any way; I'm simply saying that we see no kind of "superiority" in the performance of their powertrain programming compared to the Superchip powertrain programming in any of these applications we've tried in F-150's, V-10's, PSD's, and several other vehicles. Heck, if Superchips didn't exist, Diablo would probably be our next choice, as they are tuning on part-throttle, somthing extremely rare in this industry, and we'd never settle for a generic full-throttle only product, as most of the industry does.
There are some downsides with Diablo that we are concerned about in our discussions with them; they list no telephone numbers on their web site, nor can any of their phone numbers be found by directory assistance, either for their parent company or for DiabloSport directly, so that end users cannot easily contact them, either for pre-sales info, or for Tech Support. They do not want to deal directly with end users, they will not sell to end users, they do not want to have to provide Tech Support directly to their end users, they do not want to be bothered with having to do all of that. They also do not want to have to provide tech Support to all of their dealers, they want 1 primary distributor to handle all of that and I was taken more than a little aback by this.
This is far different from Superchips and most other major players, Hypertech, etc. those companies offer toll-free Tech Support numbers for both dealers and end users direct to the manufacturer, their numbers are listed on thier web sites, in directory assistance, and they will bo directly provide any needed Tech Support to their end users as well as what all of their dealers may need. Diablo has been quite clear in that they prefer to devote their resources to applications development, and do not want to put in place the rather considerable infrastructure that is required for a manufacturer to provide the kind of direct support to end users and dealers alike that most of the rest of the manufacturers in this industry do.
A very strange approach, and one that I feel they will have to change, ultimately, time will tell on that as well. They have already had to make some major changes in their marketing strategies in just their short 18 months on the performance chip scene, as new companies must do sometimes. For example, they have substantially raised their prices, and some of their applications, like the Powerstroke diesels & V-10 gas engine chips are *much* more expensive than Superchips nowadays, with all of their applications having a higher MSRP than Superchips.
People who are entrusting the powertrain in their $30,000 & up new FoMoCo or other vehicle want to know that they have backup, that there is a solidly established manufacturer waiting and ready with technical support and any other service any end user might ever reasonably need. We feel the same way.
Of course, you can look at any industry and make comparisons of the players, and find all kinds of things, such is business. Personally, I hope they do very well, as for every chipmaker that comes along and does a good job, it makes the rest of the industry look good and perform better, pushing R&D on and on, as competition tends to do.
The bottom line is that the only person who needs to be happy with the parts they choose is each individual vehicle owner, and *everyone* should do whatever they feel makes them the happiest.
