Confused by Hypertech Dyno Charts...?

For a few years now I have been curious about possibly purchasing a Ford F250/350 for my towing needs. I do not tow all that often, but when I do it is fairly heavy stuff, at least relative to my tow vehicle, near the top end of my current Expedition's tow rating.

So, I wanted to see what I could expect if I picked up one of the 3v v10 trucks. Several years ago I noticed Hypertech offers dyno sheets online of vehicles they have tested, so I thought that might be a place to start "looking at the numbers." Here is what their website shows for a 2005 v10 and 2005 v8...no joke, by all means check for yourselves.

2005 3v v10
242Hp@5100rpm
291Tq@3800rpm

2005 3v v8
251Hp@5000rpm
300Tq@3900rpm

What the hell??? The v8 made more power than the v10...my BS meter pegged when I saw this one.

I am not sure what went wrong here, but I have come to the personal conclusion Hypertech's numbers in this case make no sense at all. Either that, or the v10 they dyno'ed was very sick at the time...or that 5.4 was far from stock.

Anyone else have any ideas? What I was looking for was actual rear-wheel numbers for the 3v v10, in the stock condition. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

What I might believe is this - the V10 numbers are actually for a stock 5.4, and the 5.4 numbers are for a 5.4 with a Hypertech tune.

All I can say about many of these "Dyno Charts" is liars figure and figures lie! If you look at the dyno charts from many of these supposed HP/TQ increases, they are typically around 5%-7% at peak rpm ranges…….guess what, 5% is a standard deviation even amoungst mfg dynos and the most important item is……these “expert tuners” (at least most) do not have or choose not to test their results (in comparison to the oem intakes) during actual vehicle motion (or simulation- such as a wind tunnel) as the oems do.

One auto and one manual?

Might also be F-150 vs F-250/350, the bigger guys automatics suck a lot more power.
