Thumbs up Dealers Super Chip mailing today

Got a letter in the mail today from my dealer that I purchased the truck from. It came from their Special Service department with their contact numbers and extensions. I was very suprised to find enclosed a full brochure from Superchips inc with all the info about them and etc. I was thinking of getting a chip but was worried about dealer hassle but this may be the ticket I was waiting for. If they send out information about the chips it may be possible I wont have a problem with them with service and warranty issues. I called the number but it was after their hours so I will call and get more info on Thurs.
I`m just wondering if it has to be bought and installed from them to keep any future problems covered. I just thought it was kind of weird after all these threads on dealers and chip problems then I get a brochure from my dealer selling the chips...

Guess I`ll find out what this exactly means in the morn, it may mean a chip is on its way

WOW!!

That would be something great to post, a document from a dealer I mean. Can you scan and post or email? How about some advertising for the dealer?

2000FordStyle, I got the same letter,
and I called Mike, I got to know a few
of the people up at Capital Ford (Buy
BACK) and he said that they were
going to have some other add ons, but
didn't say what..??
I asked about how Ford was reacting
to the chips and he more or less
said,"Fords had too big of a upper
hand on add ons". so this may help
the poor customers that are having
BIG problems with warrantee work.

I talked to a guy yesterday and he
said, in Houston. there's several
Ford dealers that mod up their
trucks.
Good news....

I am in Houston and would LOVE the name of any dealer who will support a chip install. I would pay twice the price from Mike (Sorry Dude) to be damn sure that I wouldn't have to argue anytime I take the truck in for service...

Thanks in advance,

Ken

Well Ken, since you asked for a
price, Capital Ford is charging
$499.00 for any of their chips. I
told them they where way to high on
the gas chip, but being a new guy on
the block,I guess Superchip(in FL) is

charging them through the nose.
Will try and get you a dealers name
in Houston also.
Have aa good one...

Thanks, Dogcam. Look forward to those names. Believe it or not, I would gladly pay that price to have it installed by a Ford Dealer so that I know I won't have any warranty issues. No Ford dealer could hassle me....

Thanks,

Ken

Hi everyone,

Actually, this is nothing new at all, as we've had Ford dealers selling & installing the Superchip for years. It's just that particular dealership mailing out advertising. And for their customers who this appeals to, that can work just fine, though pricey.

Though most already know this, for those who might not know, it doesn't make a difference whether you get the Superchip there or elsewhere, your legal rights are still the exact same & your warranty remains intact, by law.

It is of course nice for some to have a Ford dealer that does this, so you know you won't ever have any service issues, however, the bottom line is that the laws governing the effect on warranty of any aftermarket parts is the same regardless of where you get it or who installs it.

While we cannot quote pricing due to the policies of F-150 Online which prevent discussing exact pricing issues here on these message boards (excellent policies which we abide by & support), you should never have to pay that kind of price for the Superchip for an F-150 or even a Powerstroke diesel, even to a Ford dealership. You can certainly do that if this makes you feel most confortable, however, they are available for *FAR* less directly from us here at Performance Products with our F-150 Online discount, either by calling us at our number listed below or simply via our F-150 Online Superchip ordering system right here, which can be accessed by clicking on the link just below in our signature line. The sales of Superchips here on F-150 Online is what allows us to support F-150 Online financially as we do, to help make this site available for all free of charge.

There are those who will feel more comfortable having someone else install it for them, and that's fine for those who feel that way, certainly, whatever makes you feel most comfortable! But we recommend to anyone who owns any kind of performance chip to do the installation themselves, or if you can't or really just don't want to, at the very least, please try to watch every part of the installation carefully, as that way they'll know exactly what's going on & what to check should there ever have any kind of issue or problem on the road. Just a suggestion.............

Good luck!

My .02 on the legality/illegality of denying warranty claims on the install of aftermarket parts (specifically a chip)

While I know that I can press the issue with my dealer to cover any issues and I will probably prevail, I am unsure as to the tenacity of their resistance. I actually earn a very good living and it is not worth the headache to argue. I would gladly pay 500 for a superchip if the dealer was going to install it and give me written docuemntation that this will not Void my factory warranty. I would then upload that letter to this forum...

I will probably still install a chip, even if the dealer won't do it, but will wait until I have 3-5K miles on the truck to be sure something major isn't going to go wrong...

Boy, I would sure like to know how they work that out.
If some Ford dealers are selling and installing computer chips how can others give people so much grief about them? Isn't there some kind of standard with the dealers?
I have not had any issues with my dealer. I do worry that if I do have an issue my dealer might turn on me. I think I have learned how to handle a situation like this. It has been discussed in length here. I just don't want to have to go trough all that. I have had really good luck with this dealership. I am on my third vehicle from them. I wish they were like the dealers that are selling computer chips!
I think it would be cool to get a behind the scenes look at the dealer computer chip sales. It might help thoes who have a warranty issue with they're dealer.
Whatever. It is encouraging to here this stuff!

Well, from talking to some of these BIG Ford dealerships, they where really pi**ed when Ford forced them into this Blue Oval Certified Dealership crap.
Alot of these dealers spent a fortune on upgrading and other expenses, now I think it's Fords turn in the "barrel"...

Hi ken800,

It all gets down to doing whatever makes you feel most comfortable, indeed, whatever each individual feels most comfortable with.

The bottom line is you have to do what you feel is best for *you* and your vehicle in your situation, absolutely, & good luck!

Hi wittom,

This is something that can vary with some dealerships, and the single best reason why it's important to know just what your *legal* rights actually are; which is why we stress that so much, so that people will know and thus be able to enforce their rights if they run across a dealership playing those games. It's also why we suggest that anyone whose dealership tries to play those games, find another dealership to do business with, never reward dealerships like that with any business of any kind.

Glad to hear your dealership is treating you as they should so far!
