Opinions on Edge Evolution Programmer

I really have no idea about programmers but a service guy at the dealership told me a programmer will do wonders to my gas mileage and help my truck shift better. I have bigger wheels/tires and a leveling kit on. I get really crappy gas mileage. Is this programmer something that can help me out? He also said it will help my transmission shift better with the bigger tires. Any help or suggestions will be very much appreciated.

88Racing, thank you for the info. That answers all my questions. Pretty much sold me on getting one. Is the one I mentioned a good one? I believe it around $350. Is that about the price I'm gonna pay for a good one?

glc 06-24-2011 01:47 PM

If you like the Edge, I wouldn't buy an Evo for a 2007. I'd buy a CS or CTS from PHP with custom tunes.

livinthelife 06-25-2011 03:21 PM

glc what is PHP? Why wouldn't you buy a Evo for a 2007?

infantry_18 06-25-2011 03:38 PM

ok so i plan on putting a GForce performance chip into my 08' n a couple weeks, with a chip can i also use a programmer to maximize performance? also, if i can use both with say a evo programmer can i have my truck dyno'd n load tunes that way? never rlly done any mods like this. im askin cuz im puttin a 6" lift and 35's on around the same time(while tryin not to re-gear).

glc 06-25-2011 03:47 PM

Don't. They don't work. Get a programmer ONLY. Read the thread that 88Racing linked to.

what is PHP?

The Evo can't be custom tuned without sending it to them for a Gryphon conversion. The CS and CTS can take their custom tunes without sending it in.

infantry_18 06-25-2011 03:58 PM

rlly it dont work? i found the link for it on here.damn it sounded great.

livinthelife 06-25-2011 04:28 PM

glc I really have no intention to get into the unit and change a ton of stuff since I have no idea what any of it does or means. But Im hoping to get better shifting/mpg/and help my transmission last longer with my bigger tires. Would you still recommend the CT or CTS over the Evo? The CT/CTS seems to have a lot of extra stuff I will never use or even look at.

Google ads. The site has no control over what ads show up.

Really? Are you positive that if he (or anybody else) buys a cs from a different source that PHP can just email a custom tune for it? I was under the impression that in order for PHP to custom tune a CS or CTS, that they had to convert these units to Gryphon first?

I'm learning as I go here too.

GLC is correct for the CS and CTS. The older Edge Evolutions had to be sent to PHP for conversion.

The CS and CTS do not.

In fact I have 5 tunes on my CTS all were 'downloaded' Fusion.

Canned 87 tranny
Canned 87 towing
Canned 91+ performance
Custom 87 performance/economy
Custom 87 towing

88racing 06-27-2011 10:03 AM

glc is correct and so is shotgunz .....

glc 06-27-2011 02:50 PM

Now - doesn't PHP give you a discount on custom tunes on the CS/CTS if you buy the programmer from them?

Yes - the tunes are half price.

That's good news that i can just order the tunes and not have to send it in to get converted to a gryphon.. I just got my Edge Evolution CS

Driving on da way to where I go for my dart league I can tell a HUGE difference. Can't wait to get some custom tunes.

So far I only have it on lvl 1 trans only. Anyone run it in the tow lvl2 for daily driving?

I used Level 2 exclusively as a daily drive tune before I got my custom tunes.

I've used all the canned tunes both the gryphon and cts....and by far custom tunes rule......the 87 perfermance custom tune has more zing than the 91-93 canned tune.....

do they make the pods for the cs and cts?(I'm sure they do, just have yet to see one in our truck) I love the look of the Evo in the pod but I do like the new tuners.

Thanks for the pics!!!

they do make pods.. the cs will fit like the old version, but the cts will require an adapter..

I'm not sure I really "get" why folks drive around with the programmer installed and mounted. They are not the most attractive thing in the world, and do nothing cosmetically for me personally. Under the right circumstances, the extra guages may come in handy, but for a daily driver, with the shifter in "drive" it seems redundant to me. Not to mention, it is just inviting some idiot criminal to steal the thing. (even though its useless to them)

Yes, the odd guy may constantly adjust small things, and tweak it to his liking, but for the VAST majority of users, the thing is (IMHO) best left in a drawer at home after installing the tunes.

I've had 2 Garmin's s stolen out of my truck in the last year. I would be too nervous having a $500 toy out in the open like that.

k_h 07-10-2011 12:35 PM

Cuz it's cool...lol...and that's what makes the human race unique, everyone is different :) overnight mine comes out, other than that I cover it with a brown towel and where mine is at it jus looks like I put a towel there

nathan3306 07-19-2011 09:59 PM

I saw on youtube that PHP had a CTS, I believe, that could idle the engine up. This was on a diesel but I was wondering if this can be done with the gas engines? It would be nice for that winter time.
If it can, will it be able to idle up in certain temperatures? This would be an ideal feature. I've seen the powerstokes do it and I thought that was the coolest thing!

stoffer 07-24-2011 10:32 AM

no Edge/Gryphon for me...

I like the SCT Xcal3 (and the Xcal2)
