Used SCT Xcal3?

This actually is a question about our 2011 Mustang. I haven't joined a mustang forum yet but I thought someone here could probably answer this for me.

I found a good deal on a used Xcal3. It has been unlocked from the owners vehicle and does have custom tunes on it now. The sellers vehicle is a 2011 GT manual and ours it s 2011 GT auto. Is there any problem getting those tunes replaced with new ones for our car?

There should be no problem. You will need to get someone to write your tunes and then load them on the hardware.

Ok thanks Bluejay! I was pretty sure that could be done but I wanted to double check.

Just make sure you find out the cost of getting custom tunes re-done on the "used" unit. I was just about to buy an SCT X3 and then saw on the JDM site that a JDM Reburn / Mail-Order Tune if you have an existing unit is $285!!

After I paid for the used tuner and a reburn, I would have been over the "new" price! I'm not sure if it's an SCT thing or just a JDM thing...I suspect it's JDM, because their price for the X3 is $485 with one tune included and see it in $300s other places wit 3 tunes?

I guess if I could get the tuner for a $100, it would be worth it!!

Thanks for the info. I was probably going to go through american muscle, they advertise 3 lifetime tunes for $150 on a device you already have. I was assuming they would reflash the unit and remove any prior tune but I will call them now to make sure.

It all may be a mute point though......the sale was a package deal with a steeda cai but it looks like the cai my not fit our car. Apparently there are different part numbers depending on the transmission? That doesn't make a lot of sense unless the motor mounts are different causing a difference in the length of tube needed?

Looks like I need to join a mustang forum so I can figure this out!

Thanks for the help everyone!

For your 2011, you should really research lond and hard. Lund knows these very well. Good comparison:
