little torque in first gear
little torque in first gear
hey guys i have an 05 f150 4.6L V8. and it feels like i have no torque in first gear i mean when im on the highway and in 2nd gear it GOES but getting up to speed sucks. any suggestions. btw im low on cash
Wrong spot BTW.
Is something wrong with it? Or are you just looking for power?
Has anything been done to it?
Bigger tires possibly?
The 4.6 isn't overly powerful, when undergeared in the heavier 2004-08 F150, it lacks.
Your gunna need some funds dude.
Do the Gotts mod.

How low is low on fund $5 or $500, also what gearing do you have and are there any mods done to your truck such as tires or such. I think the cheapest way would be a tuner with some custom tunes or re gear but that isnt gonna be really cheap. I have a 4.6 with 3.73 crew cab on 35"s with a bed load of tools and a 12 ft enclosed trailer and I make due its slow. This motor isnt very quick so theres not a lot you can do that is cheap...
um. everything is stock. i mean i got dual magnaflow exhaust dumped before the rear axel, and a 2.5" leveling kit on the front. thats it. i mean i got the truck a year ago and i don't know what the gear ratio is....
There's also a sticker on your trucks drivers door or jam...it has an axel code on it...
and i just noticed the guy who owned the truck put 18inch fx2 or fx4 rims on it. ... bc the stock rims are 255/65r17 and i have 275/65r18 on it

32" tires over the stock 30" ones...
With a 4.6, thats a noticeable change in performance in certain rpm ranges...
Without a regear, your not gunna gain much.
You could get a programmer, but its not gunna do what gears could on a 4.6
Your rear axle has a bulge in the back. that is where your ring and pinion gear are.
This is where power is transerred from the driveshaft to the axles....The Drive shaft turns the pinion shaft which has a gear that meshes with the ring gear.
Depend on how many teeth each one has, is how you get your ratio.
for example, 39:11 = 3:55

Also, you have an open diff. Which mean your planetary gears which allow for uneaqual movement of the tires is not clutched...
Meaning...
One Wheel Peel.
A limited slip has clutches to prevent..."slip"
Ex;
Open differential

Limited slip from Ford.. An S clip keeps tension on the side gears with clutch discs

Hope this helps

Nope
My suggestion is something you won't wanna do.
Downsize the rubber and rims.
Good way to get power instead of gear.
If you have your stock wheels, put them back on..
