I got a superchip from you. Early in year you reflashed for the 2000 Lightning I got(had 99 Lightning). I got a new motor, is a 2001 setup, with intake and blower. Have not put chip back in,going to wait 500miles. Will I need chip adjusted? I did notice last few months that did not shift at 5600rpm, and apeared back at stock 5200rpm.

Thsnks

Hi WillMall2,

Well, let's see........... the shift points cannot change on their own, the only way they're going to change is as the result of a mechanical modification or failure, or an alteration to the program, and by alteration, I mean either the ECU being reflashed at the dealership or you sending the Superchip back in for a change in it's program; in other words, something has to be done to *cause* that to happen, that's not just going to happen on it's own. I'm thinking that what might be happening is that now with the new engine and with the Superchip out, your shift points are back to the 5250 stock setting, which is just as it should be without the Superchip of course, as you're now running on the factory program once again. Once the Superchip is re-installed (with the correct program), your shift points will be back, but they'll go to 5400, not 5600. The Lightning tachs are sometimes not too accurate, we've seen them read high, low, and pretty close to accurate. Just so you know, we set the WOT upshift to 5400 in the performance program.

With regards to your Superchip needing to be reprogrammed, that answer depends on whether or not your powertrain computer was reflashed at the dealership when they did the motor change. Usually they don't in most cases these days, but it's entirely possible, especially in the case of installing a 2001 Lightning motor if you got all the 2001 stuff including the new 90mm MAF; in that case they would need to do a reflash to the 2001 Lightning computer code, certainly. If they have done this, you will see it listed on your service paperwork somewhere, it will say something about "reprogrammed PCM" or similar wording, etc. Also, they are supposed to place what's called a "Notice of Modification" sticker under the hood in a prominent location, and write in the new calibration code, so that any future technician working on this vehicle will see that as soon as he or she opens the hood and looks down inside. Dealerships don't always place that sticker under the hood unfortunately, but you can tell by checking your service paperwork you were given when you picked the vehicle up.

Now, let's say they have reflashed your ECU.......in that case, we simply need to reprogram your Superchip to match that new code, and that is easily done.

You need to contact us privately, off these message boards to take care of this. You can reach us at our number listed below Monday thru Friday from 10am to 7pm, Eastern time. (4th of July excepted, as we're closed for the 4th!) Just give us a shout by phone or email and we'll go over all of this with you, and get done whatever needs to be done!

Have a great 4th of July,
