Help with sct

I am looking at buying a tuner from friend.
On the device it says it is an x3 but it says it has preloaded or canned tunes on it but when I go to act site it seems to say the x3 does not have canned tunes that the sf3 has the canned tunes.

Anyway i will give it a try with the canned tunes if I buy it then I can buy custom tunes correct? Also on the sct site I only see updates for the sf3 but if I put in my serial number it tells me to Use the updates for the sf3?

Thanks for any help first times using a tuner scared to jack my truck up.

the SF3 is an older make of the X3 and they have different updates. I'll take a look at mine when I get home. IIRC there is something about there being a model 3000 and a 3015, they are both X3 but need different updates. One has canned tunes + custom and the other only has custom.

Fellas - this is real simple.

Go to the Device Info screen on yer handheld as shown in the manual - to determine exact model (jot down any s/w revision info as well - you may need it).

Go to SCT's site for all the rest:

SF3 (#3015):

http://www.sctflash.com/showsctproducts.php?Prod=SF3
http://www.sctflash.com/products.php?PID=2&VID=

X3 (#3000):

http://www.sctflash.com/showsctproducts.php?Prod=X3
http://www.sctflash.com/products.php?PID=1&VID=

Link to manual: http://www.sctflash.com/PDF/3015EOsmall.pdf

BTW - the SF3 is not an 'older' model - it's current.

So I guess my question is what is the difference I have an x3
But is says on box it has preprogrammed tunes but on sct site
It seems to imply the x3 is custom only no canned tunes.

Ah, yes .. this is the original revision of the X3 'Powerflash' - once upon a time, the X3 was sold with canned tuning embedded. But no more - now there are 2 models: custom-only #3000, and canned #3015 (which can acept custom if desired).

Here is a link to the no-longer-being-sold Original version: http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...catalogno=3000. TP needs to update their site.

For you, my best advice is to contact SCT directly for support on the older 'legacy' model; whether canned tune updates are still available or not. It will however still accept custom tuning - that is certain.

It's also likely going to need a firmware update (see SCT site) to support current functionality , tools and vehicles.

This makes perfect Sense if I key the serial number off of it into the sct web page
It tells me what files to use to update it seems to be the same files the sf3 is using.
I should be ok with them don't you think.
Then I should be able to run the canned tunes on it corrct?
And if I purchase it I can have custom tunes done correct?
You have been a huge help MGDfan

^^ yessir.

Good job, Alex - I think yer good to go.

[If you wish - drop SCT Tech Support an email just to confirm. I'd want to know if any firmware changes are recommended]

Good luck.

Thanks MGD got it up and running with the help of the great SCT techs.
I need your opinion on something. I am going to load the canned tune tomorrow
I know I can get custom tunes also. Would it be worth it I don't need the most power I can get just looking for a little seat of the pants fun but keep the truck safe from damage
And some times I got on long driving vacations so MPG would help also.

Again thanks for your help.

Hi Alex. That's good to hear. Yep - the SCT folks are great.

For now, just roll with the canned tunes - you should notice the most significant difference to be in the tranny control and throttle lag reduction areas, with some perf gains, depending on octane.

What custom will net you is yet another level of refinement, more perf gains, and the ability to specify precisely what you want the tuning to reflect in terms of personal requirements - econo, max perf, max tow, valet, soccer mom, drag, you name it - and for any octane. In addition to leveraging datalogging and correction if warranted - all via email.

A lot of folks stay with canned as it's all they'll need (stock truck, no intake mods, etc) - it is yer choice, ultimately.

Good news is - folks like VMP offer custom tune files for a very reasonable price -so if you want to try just one, yer out only $60. The more you order at once, the less they each cost.

I am back to pester you.
Loaded the tune so far so good.
Few question I selected preloaded tune then f150 5.4
There was no option so I assume it only had one tune.
The it said change options I said ok.
I get octane and stock or tow question is like trans pressure I can pick let's say 10percent. Is that 10 percent more than preloaded tune will apply or if I put ten
Will it ignore the tune and set it for ten percent more than stock? Not sure if that made any sense
