Hi & welcome.

Sir - do not expect an ROI based upon fuel savings with any tuner.

It is by no means assured - every truck is as different as their owner.

Best just to enjoy the revised shifting , reduced throttle lag, marginal performance gains and gauge displays. Any MPG increase that you *may* see would be gravy.

Some useful info in the links provided in my siggie.

Good luck

What I got was much improved performance and about the same mpg. So, much more fun for only the cost of the tuner.

The Evo is very much worth the money. It made my truck fun to drive. Better shifting and about 25 more HP. I was satisfied with the Evo for about 30,000 miles and then decided to get custom tunes from PHP. I was able to get an 87 tune that delivered about the same as the Evo did on 93 and got much improved downshifting. The downshifting or lack of it, was what I did not like about the Evo canned tunes. On two lane roads, when I need to pass, I need to kick it and go. With the 87 Perf tune, I paid for the upgrade in 6 months at 25 cents a gallon.

Don't forget the gauges, those alone are worth the price to me. I have had them a total of about 70,000 miles, would be lost without them.

So, if you are considering the Evo, I would strongly encourage you to go with the Gryphon from PHP. You get the same hardware, but you get the custom tunes.

^^ I agree with everything Bluejay said. I use my gauges all the time and I also upgraded from an Edge to a Gryphon to get custom tunes. Just get the Gryphon in the first place and you will always be ready to go when it comes to ordering custom tunes to accommodate any future mods.

Ive read that the the edge is a better unit than the Gryphon though. I have the Edge, and was thinking about just buying the Gryphon instead of having the Edge transformed and every post I got said not to do it. You are better off buying the Edge and paying the 25.00 I think to have it transformed into the Gryphon. You are going to have to pay for the custom tunes either way at $60 bucks a tune.

How could it be a better unit. Not sure where you got that idea as PHP buys their units from Edge and puts a different cover/label on them and sends it back to you. Bill actually worked for Edge and is still on contract with them as a programmer. He wrote Edges canned tunes. The canned tunes in the Gryphon are slightly different as he has updated them a little.

This was all an agreement between bill andEdge so they would not lose their CARB certificate in California.

An Evo is the exact same thing as the Gryphon, like Bluejay said. From what I've heard, Bill still does contracts for Edge every once in a while and that's how he is able to do what he does, as far as modifying the Evos to make Gryphons.
$25 to upgrade and $30 per tune for a monochrome Gryphon. $60 per tune for a CS or CTS.
