Edge Evolution $100 upgrade

This summer I bought myself an 04 F150 FX4. The truck came with the Edge Evolution programmer and I haven't messed with it too much other than using the trans canned tune. My speedometer has been off since I bought the truck and haven't really paid to much attention to it. I recently tried to adjust the tire size to match my aftermark wheels and its telling me this option isn't avaible. I was never able to connect it to my computer and recieve the updates, but come to find out I have an older model that uses the Lighting software and not the Fusion software I was trying. I talked with Edge Products and they said they would send me a new programmer for a $100 upgrade fee. I decided might as well and sent it off. I haven't got it back yet and have since did some read and maybe this isn't the way I should have gone. I have a K&N air filer and a Magnaflow exhaust. I've read the issues of running the truck lean without a custom tune done. Alot of people recommend the Gott mod, but my issue is I don't have the stock intake to mod. I read the tow tune runs richer, so it may help some. The only option I see people reccomending is to send it to PHP for a custom tune. Is there anything I can do in my custom options to run it a bit richer. I am not wanting to get every single HP out of the truck, Just wanting to make the truck last. Any advice is appreciated.

No adjustments that you can do, but what I would do, since you are stuck with that intake, is run the Level 2 tow tune with 89 octane. Always listen for pinging, regardless. Also, I would convert your Edge to the Gryphon and get custom tuning from PHP. much better shifting and downshifting as well as eliminate the risk of running lean.

Get the thing converted to a Gryphon and get custom tunes......

Nope you cannot adjust the a/f ratio using the programmer....Bill's custom tunes will....

Make sure you put your truck back to stock programming before you send the programmer in.....

No, they do not do custom tuning so they can keep their California certificate. The only one that can do custom tuning on the Edge is Power Hungry Performance(Bill) and that is only after he converts it to a Gryphon. This is his agreement with Edge.

Nope.....

Only Bill@PHP can and the programmer has to be converted to a Gryphon first....

Is it possible that the previous owner had the speedometer recalibrated when he put on the aftermarket tires?

I am having incorrect speeds when I am programming in my tire size. The stock tune is right on based on my phones GPS. When I reprogram it for my aftermarket tires my GPS is reading 65, my programmer is reading 60, and my truck is reading 70. Is it possible the stock tune is already calibrated for my tires?

Have you checked the default gears in the tune to see if they are what your truck actually has?

I checked the code in the door and it says the stock gears are 3.73, I checked the tow tune and thats what it was set to.

Ok, that sounds good, then. What size tires do you have and what is the number you are entering for them?

I can't remember the exact numbers I was getting when I tested it, I may have to do it again. I do know all three were getting different speeds with the custom tune and when I tried the stock tune, the GPS and programmer where in sync and my speedometer was about 2 mph higher.

The speedometer in the truck will always be 2-3 mph faster than the gps and the Edge. Ford builds them that way.

Yah I've heard that. Is it possible the stock tune is set for my aftermarket tires? Is that even possible?

I would enter 2450 and see what that does. Edge's formula does not allow for squish, the flattening out of the tire when on the vehicle. There is always 3-5% squish.
