need tuner or programmer

Hey guys I have an 01 4wd with the 4.6 and the dumbest gearing I have EVER seen it has 3:42s I'm wanting to regear it eventually. But for now I'm wanting to add a power tower cold air and tune or program it. All it has for time being is k&n filter and a cherrybomb race muffler open. Putting a 4.5in Ezride lift on plus the 2in keys that are already on it. Just lookin for tune advice on which to go with

I'd go with this simple, but HIGHLY EFFECTIVE (and proven) procedure:

1. Build your knowledge foundation by reading the hundreds of threads in this forum
2. Decide you want custom tunes (no option here)
3. Determine what features you want (i.e., how much you want to spend)
4. Contemplate the miriad of choices while consuming beer
5. Develop a list of specific questions about the hardware and programmer YOU have chosen
6. Call the 'chosen' one and ask
7. Pull the trigger

Xcal2.

Stay away from the evo for the 97-03 trucks....this is due to a known cable issue that might pucker your truck and have you getting it towed to the dealer for a reflash.

Then I think you have 3.55's. That was pretty much the standard axle ratio in F-150's for the past 20 years or so. If the 2 digit axle code on your door jamb sticker ends in a "9" that's what you have.

Take that K&N filter out, put a dry filter back in, and do a Gotts mod to your stock intake. Lots cheaper than an aftermarket intake, just as effective, and you won't be getting hot underhood air into your intake or fouling your MAF with K&N oil.

If you are lifting it and putting bigger tires on it, your money is best spent regearing it. Worry about a programmer after you buy the gears.

I didn't say anything about a Fram - and that's the one air and oil filter you do NOT want to use. Your K&N is doing NOTHING positive for you except it's washable and reusable. I threw mine away after it filled my intake tube with dust and it fouled my MAF sensor.

You'll only be able to find the xcal2 used.....
The xcal3 you can find new or used...
Once you get one you'll have find someone to write your tunes for your truck....
