Sniper
@ the OP sniper's tuning software is the best way for somebody to get into custom tuning their own car or truck BY THEMSELVES. i've seen the commando software and it's fairly straight forward stuff (they really dumbing it down, you know for guys like MGDfan
), however if you've never used actual custom tuning software then the last thing you would want is to start on a vehicle with a power adder (supercharger). SCT offers a software kit for DIY guys and you can even take classes from SCT and learn how to use it, of coarse this is much more expensive (upwards of $1500) Justin at VMP tuning sells a SCT DIY kit if your interested in something like that.
My truck right now is currently dyno tunned with sniper software. I'm just not happy with my results. I'm still having issues with detonation and my mechanic says it is running rich. I want a good safe reliable tune. I have already invested a lot money in getting my truck dyno tuned it would suck to start over again.
If you're not happy with the tune....have you contacted the tuner and given him another shot?
This is were Justin@VMP excels......if you want to go the SCT route.

I haven't looked at the Sniper other than a quick review some time back and looked like "tuning lite" to me. The drop down menus turned me off.
The detonation has to go.
I have the SCT software and tune my own truck, and it is still together. My dealer wrote a base tune which he gave to me in open format so I could modify or copy and make corrections after datalogging. It has been an enjoyable pastime.
Some SCT dealers will provide an open tune with the software purchase, some will not. It is much easier to modify a base tune than to build a tune from scratch but there is good support on tuning forums and the SCT Pro Racer support forum.
By the way, as you did not confirm that you have a wideband but your mechanic said it is running rich how would he know? Let me guess....sense of smell.
