Will custom tunes work on my 05 F-150 with California emissions

 

Technically custom tunes are not legal in California, for the most part. Some canned tunes have CARB exemptions. Will they work, yes, no difference in programming.

 

I believe MA. where I live, uses CA. emission standards. I have had no problem passing inspection with the Edge's canned tune on the #2 towing /plowing tune. in place at testing time.

On my SCT X3 clamshell package, there is a sticker that says: "NOT LEGAL FOR SALE ON POLLUTION CONTROLLED VEHICLES OR IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA".

My car was sold in California with the California emissions package. Custom tunes loaded just fine. No problems with vehicle operation, or drive-ability. Just remember to let the tuner know that our California gas has 5.6% ethanol, and that our highest octane fuel is 91.

So yes. They work.

You should be able to pass your smog check. I've never heard of anyone's tune causing them to fail smog. I can't even see how a tune can increase tailpipe pollutants. If you want to fail your smog test, you will have to do that on your own. Try taking out your cats.

 

where did you get your tunes from? my truck has CA emissions and when i load a custom tune it scares the crap out of me. and not in the good way either......keeps acting funny and feeling like someone is randomly stepping on the brakes while im driving.. trying to get it resolved
