If you can't get money back on I might take it, I like how they look.

personally if I was you I would have kept it, I love my AEM and the roush looks better. But my AEM is a dry filter.

That said I only spent $175 on mine.

Your call, but I guess you already returned it.

Oh well, good luck with what ever you did.

Yea I already returned it...lost 40 bucks on shipping it back and another 40 for a restocking fee but whatever..talked to PHP and they said that if I already had the intake on, they would just adjust their calibrations to the programmer to take in account for that but said a CAI wouldn't do anything in hp gains so i might as well return it and get my money back...it looks cool but not worth it if its just gonna sit there lookin pretty, you know

Wait, let me get this right, you paid what for it? then lost $80 on sending it back? so you are $80= in the hole and have NOTHING to show for it?

Sounds silly to me, I would have kept it, even if you got a full refund but paid shipping and restocking.

Well man its your money I know for $80 loss I would have kept it, I have a hard time seeing the pair at PHP outright saying you won't gain from one.

I think they meant you are not going to gain massive amounts from one.

For example, with only a CAI you might gain 10Hp
With a tuner you would get say 15HP

Both working with each other might only be 20HP, not 25.

Thats the way it was explained to me not only here but also when I called and talked directly to PHP, are you sure that was not a misunderstanding?

Just don't think that all CAIs are the same.........
Each manufacturer places the MAF in a slightly different location.
So if you did swap your tunes would need adjusting.

I talked to Bill at PHP and he said if you can return it and get some money back, do it...the cai wont give me any gains in hp but if I did put it on, I should let him know so he can calculate for that so my engine doesn't run lean...basically, the only reason people need to get a tune on the cai is so their trucks don't run lean, but from what he told me he said to just return it because I'm not going to see any difference...But yea, I was out 80 bucks on a 300 buck intake...figured I might as well get 220 back rather than just having a cool looking intake that does nothing.

I thought (I might be wrong) that a CAI and a tune won't give as much combined but but that it still helps.

I personally don't expect large gains, but I would think 3-8Hp with one over stock.

But thats just me, if Bill said it's so then I guess thats how it is.

The first part is right on

The second part is actually true. Bill has run trucks on a dyno and seen gains of 5-9 hp over stock intake with the gotts mod. I did my own testing and by increased air percentage over stock I also got about the same numbers. Didn't dyno my truck because I'm not paying $80+ to dyno a $10 intake. The CAI wont get much more power gain than the gotts mod because of the adjustments for it. To keep the intake from "droning" you have to sacrifice a little bit of power. Many people who had said dont worry about taking out the drone asked to have their tunes rewritten some time later so now he tunes for it automatically. You usually come out even on power but it is cheaper and easier to do the gotts vs a CAI.

Exactly....might as well get like $220 back ($40 was deducted for the restocking fee and $40 for shipping it back) and just go with the Gotts mod. I can spend 10 bucks and get about the same hp gain as the $300 intake...I should have called PHP first before buying the intake so I could have saved 300 dollars...Basically, an intake isn't worth it. If you get an intake, you have to get a tune so the truck doesnt run lean. Once you get the tune for the intake, it still isn't going to add any hp (from Bill's mouth). That tune is just for someone who decided to go with the intake and wants to take precautionary measures with their truck and prevent their engine from running too lean. In conclusion, the Gotts method is the way to go and doesn't even require a tune.
