So if I send you my Edge this next week, you'll program it? I reallly need mine custom-tuned for when I put my L engine in, but really don't need to spend the $$$ on a whole 'nother programmer when I can just use the one I have...

A different programmer is available; it's about $80 more expensive, but it DOESN'T use the same OBDII cable as the Evo/Gryphon, so we believe it's more reliable.

Not trying to act like a A$$ but i know alot of people still have the ol 97-03's including my self but know we are just left out to dry by the best bussiness to get custom tunes. Have a good day

didn't you understand this when you bought a canned tuning device???

also why do you feel the need to spend money on multiple additional tunes???

I paid for my tuning device and life time revisions to my tune(s) for the same price ya'll are paying for canned tuning devices and you want to lecture me on the value of money????

and if my tuner ever goes out of business, I have the option of finding another tuner who uses the same software

Due to the time consuming nature of recovering PCMs after cable failures (usually 30 minutes to 2 hours), we have decided it is in all of our customers' best interest to discontinue offering upgrades for the 97-03 F-150 Evolution programmers as of Friday, July 9.

Programmers received in our office after this date will be returned AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE.

Thank you so much for understanding, and we truly apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

I have to respect PHP even more for taking a stand on quality and not caving in to ensure their name is on a quality product

way to go PHP, you'll keep getting referals from me

I have to agree. It doesn't make sense to keep selling a product that has a known issue that was resolved, but keeps resurfacing. It's more time they put into the business that keeps them from programming new customers items. Because, i know first hand Bill won't let a customer sit and wait. I had to call him the night i upgraded my tunes and he was on the phone with me 45 minutes because of a no-start issue with my Gryphon.

I think it does say somthing positive about PHP not wanting to sell a product that has reliability issues. I am in your corner too PHP!

I'll also proudly stand in PHP's corner on this issue. If you know a product has a history of failing, and it continues to fail even after the manufacturer supposedly improves the product, I would have a hard time supporting that product any further. I have been involved in product failures before (can you say Dell computer?), and dealt with poor customer support enough to finally switch to a different brand of computer. I am certain that PHP thought the consequences of this action over before they made this decision, and to them, this decision is in their best interests. They are a third-party supplier of an improved version of a product, and are having trouble both on the customer side, and, from my understanding, the supplier side, so they decided to no longer carry this troublesome product.

And yes, KingRanchCoy, I also have one of the Edge Evo's in question at the present time, and if and when the cable goes bad, I might just take the Evo out of the vehicle, attach it to an old magazine with double face tape, and see what 180 grains of Nosler Partition fired from a 30-06 100 yards away would do to it. Yes, I am a little upset with the decision of PHP, but I can fully understand what they are dealing with as a business. Plus, it just may be worth the cost of the upgrade if you get a better screen and a reliable connection cable.

how could anyone be upset with PHP, they have been very up front with this problem, which PHP did not create.

Someone mentioned Dell computers, after battery problems and both desktop and laptop HD drive replacements, I found peace at: www.ihatedell.net .

Im sorry to ruffle the feathers of all of you php lovers , the main point i was trying to state was Corey said in the very first post that the reason they are not doing upgrades is because it takes 30mins-2 hours to recover the pcm. Its not like they are spending hours and hours every single day on bad cables. I asked her out of the last 200 upgrades how many of the cables has been bad and she declined to answer, but she went on to tell me that only one of the 04-08 cables have been bad. Yall can flame me all you want but im done with this thread goodbye

I cant get you any numbers but there have been slight increases due to people changing tunes for towing and such. With a workload that is always growing they are slowly loosing that slack to be fixing a problem that they can't do anything about. You say your in the computer business and there is a computer that has a very high chance of breaking. Would you still try to sell as many of those computers as you could even though you KNOW it has a very high chance of failing? We are also not JUST talking about computers here. Not everyone is only 20 miles away from home when something fails.

The 97-03 F150 guys aren't as stranded as you would like to have it appear. There are still alternatives, you just wont have the 4 digital guages on some of them. Also, custom tuning is not required. I know plenty of people who have bought programmers and were happy with the product as is. Until I got mine and realized there was a possiblity for custom tunes, the only reason anyone I know would get custom tunes was when they did a significant upgrade that required it.

It is not a situation that anybody is happy about. The removal of the 97-03 programmers, upgrades and custom tunes will have an effect on their sales and customer base size but the cable problem had a larger negative effect. But they are not abandoning the 97-03 trucks all together. They just aren't selling the programmers and programmer upgrades for them.

FWIW I would say your last statement is a little unfair. I drive a 2008 4.6L. Do you think I would see someone having trouble and say "Oh, they have a 98 f150 so I'm not going to help." But your probably going to call anything I say biased because I am a moderator for PHP and have seen more than a few emergency threads because of cable failures that left their customers stranded.

^^If I'm not mistaken, you should be able to still have your Gryphon tuned; they'll just no longer convert Edge Evos to Gryphons.
