I can see that, fair enough. My truck being as old as it is and an automatic.. with 118,000 miles on it..... I've got some pretty high expectations too, possibly even realistic since as a truck gets old it lags back a little bit. Adding something like a tuner I'd imagine will help bring out the beast, as long as it does not shorten the life of the engine or transmission of course.

with an automatic truck i think you will be very pleased. like i said i really think that on a N/A gas engine its more the trans tuning than anything that makes an improvement. i think that edge advertises about 18hp improvement for the 4.6L engine. in the real world, that's probably more like 8-10hp. hardly noticeable. now on the turbo diesel engines, there is so much potential for power that isn't utilized in the factory tuning that there really is a HUGE increase in engine power alone with a tuner, in addition to the automatic trans tuning. my friend had dyno'd his super duty after every mod he's done. the first thing he did was get a Gryphon tuner and made something like 90hp over stock with the canned tunes. the custom tunes are not really a fair comparison since he had them made for a couple other bolt-on mods and installed everything at the same time, but he's now close to 200hp over stock.
