I have seen quite a few 98s that it will actually work on, but I'd need to know the vehicles calibration ID to say for sure.

Can you tell me the box code on the PCM?

There should be a 4-digit box code onthe PCM, that will suffice short of having a tool to read the calid out of the PCM.

some code readers may be able to display the calibration ID.

Passenger side dooor jam near hinges. There should be a white sticker with a code on it unless it has fallen off of your old truck.

Yes that is your base code. It is a good starting point. If you have been reflashed though it may be different. It is not the hex code though. You will need a programmer to pull the hex code if they need it.

ok noob question but whats a hex code, and how do i know if my ecu has been reflashed? and a actual programer or just a obd2 reader? im almost leaning towards that edge evoluton cts thing though, sounds like i can leave it hooked up to my truck and use it as a speedometer, as i cant figure out why my speedo no work

To simplify it the hex code is like the version of firmware your computer is running. You will need a programmer to read it. Speak with the vendor you are buying the programmer from and he will tell you what he needs.
