edge problem?

2000 f150 5.4 4x4 7700
driving down the road yesterday and i noticed that my instrument cluster went dead and my edge evolution also shut off. the odo read - - - - - - - - and all the gauges read as if the truck was off(there were two lights that turned on, dont remember what they were). the truck still drove fine so i turned off and found a place to park. so i turned the truck off and then to the on position(not starting it) and i noticed that my edge would not turn back on unless i unplugged it and then plugged it back in. with the edge not on the truck wouldn't start. so my question is, is this a problem with my edge or am i having truck issues? this has happened once before with the same results.

thanks

Sounds like the battery is fading.

the battery is fairly new(within a year) and i have had no other electrical problems. the truck starts and runs fine. even when the gauges and edge went dead the truck still ran like nothing weird was going on. then when trying to start the truck just wont stay running, it turns over and does start but wont stay running for more then a second or 2 and the edge doesn't turn on at all. then when i unplug the edge and plug it back in the truck starts and runs perfect. i know this is out of the norm and appreciate the input

also this has only happened twice now in the span of about 6 months

That is weird I still think its your battery because like you said it dies when you have it pluged in but runs fine when its unpluged and it seems your truck doesn't have enough power and goes in to to safefailure mode I would take you truck to the local Ford dealer and have them flash your pcm and then reinstall your programmer but I would look at the battery because that was the problem for me.

If you can charge the battery and get the Edge monitor working, use it to check the voltage output.

I would check with your local auto parts store.
They will typically do it for free

yea, i guess i could. so i i return it to stock(level 0) does the programmer still control the computer or will it just monitor it?

also when i set it to level 2 and the trucks in lower rpms(1100-1500) and under some stress it makes a rattling sound(sounds like an octane knock or spark knock). im really just starting to hate this thing

That monitor never controls the computer. It has programs in it that you transfer to the computer. You are moving programs back and forth. When you load the 0, you are back to stock.

You just stated something that is a real problem. Something is causing it to run lean. That is a no-no.
