2006 4.6L - will a tuner make a difference?

I've searched the forums and find mostly 5.4L threads, will the Gryphon or SCT tuners make a difference on my 4.6L? I'd like some extra horsepower.

Good evening!

Searched you say? I dare say, sir that you may need to work on those skills

Not to worry though - while I suck at this whole Search concept I was able to stumble upon ...

==> https://www.f150online.com/forums/ch...ner-4-6-a.html

It is but one of but many dozens concerning 4.6 results using SCT custom tuning...

You should further explore the capabilities of Adanced Search - very powerful tool - I myself was totally overwhelmed and needed to contemplate my navel to re-center myself to keep from going bonkers! You should have much better success.

Good luck and may yer days be filled with fun and fibre!

Thanks MGDFan, I guess I should've used the word "browsed" instead of "searched." You're right, I need to use the search tool a little more rigorously. Thanks again.

I have an 08 4.6 with a Gryphon with custom tunes. It makes it feel like a whole new truck. I'm very glad I went with it. When I turn it back to stock you can really tell a difference. I would highly recommend tuning it.

I will vouch for the difference a tuner will make on a 4.6L. I have the Edge Evo set on level 2 (tow/haul) and can honestly say I'm very impressed how easily it will spin the 35's on pavement, not just a one-wheel-wonder kinda thing either. I know its not good for the the tranny or diff or any other part of the drivetrain, but believe me when I tell you it only happens when I'm told "That 4.6L ain't crap!".

Hey if you don't mind me asking, what are you MPG's like with the 35's? I was really close to getting them, but opted to just go with 285/70/17 because of the MPG

If I drive like a sensible humanoid I get about 14MPG in town and about 17.5 (18mpg with a tail wind) on the road between 65-70mph.

I'm assuming you adjusted your speedo with the programer, right? just asking cuz I dont have a programmer yet, I'm running 265/70/17 with a 2.5" leveling kit up front and when you calc mileage out long hand, I'm getting 20 on the highway. I mean a whole tank highway, like when we go over 150 miles one way on a trip.

Yup, I change the settings to match my truck every time I adjust the power level. 20mpg is pretty damn good, but then again you're not on 35's. Is you rig a Scab or Screw? 4x4 or 4x2?

its just a 2wd screw but another guy her has same truck as me except hes running all stock, and hes getting 16 18 if hes real lucky. He claims 18 is only when he drives 60-65. I been lookin at going up to 315's as soon as I can afford them.

Yeah, I have an 07 4.6 2wd regcab and just got my Edge Evolution and I really like it, I started off just riding around in trans only mode to see what it was like and the shifting in trans only mode feels great!, tow haul is really snappy to me but you can tell theres some extra power there, and I just added some 93 to what little 87 I had left in the gas tank and switched it to Extreme and it gets up, found myself easy doing 65-70 on the local 55mph highways last night with foot resting on pedal. Id definately recommend it, havnt got to go all out with it minus a one tire fryer burnout.. plus all the cool features its a compliment to the truck!

Im considering a tune for my 2006 4.6L as well. My question is... at what point do you need to start thinkin about a custom tune instead of a canned tune. So far all i have is magnaflow cat back and airaid intake. Next is troyer electric fans, underdrive pulleys, 60,000 volt coil on plugs, LT pacesetter headers with offroad y pipe and 75mm throttle body...

FYI this stuff is gonna be added over a period of time.
Thanks for the advice folks.
