Flashpaq vs Edge, current users?
Hey all, I spent all night last night on here searching and reading up on everything.. I know most everyone agrees on a Gryphon for custom tunes, but after reading some things on the EDGE's/Gryphon and a few on the Flashpaq, it sounds to me that the Flashpaq is best used if you already have exhaust and intake mods done and dont plan on nothing else major to it.. which I have done and plan on doing.
Ive read on the EDGE and people say its not made for different intakes and exhaust changes to a stock truck, soo here it seems I will go with the Flashpaq but the only advantage I see in the edge to being able to someday have it changed to Gryphon then get custom tunes. Any advice on which to get mainly looking for people with Edges of Flashpaqs. Im pretty sure Ill just go with the Flashpaq unless otherwised convinced.. on their website it even stats something about already having cai and exhaust this will help or work along. Also whats the difference in the basic tunes provided in the Gryphon vs the Edge.. I know you can get one custom tuned but when buyin one from the straight out of the box is there any difference in their stock tunes vs an Edge.?
Only thing I might update would be high flowing cats to go with my exhaust on down the road.. and of course Id love to do STS turbo someday that would be WAY down the road.

Why would you spend the near-equivalent amount on a canned device when you can get a future-proof custom handheld for about the same cost?
If you plan on any REAL mods at all (like yer STS), or longtubes, then you will end up buying another device unless you either get an Edge now ( to upgrade to Gryphon later) or go with SCT.
The gains over canned tuning are significant, but with the very minor changes on yer truck as it sits right now, ( insignificant < 10 hp changes) canned Edge tunes ,or canned Superchips tunes, are fine. And safe.
Look like ya didn't search enough. Not surprising given the state of the database recently

Plus, the Edge like the Gryphon, comes with a monitor for 4 gauges. They are just not comparable products. I use the gauges constantly.

Also - keep in mind if there are certain A/F-altering, or power-adder mods planned and the end-user wishes to retain remote custom email tuning, the datalogging capabilities of the SCT products can be a significant discriminating factor. Just fyi...

Tru dat. Hence, the Scanguage II.

Thanks

Also FYI, the Predator and trinity have the same logging and custom tuning capabilities, plus end user adjustable parameters, plus canned tunes that are way above and beyond what most people here call 'canned' tunes, including tunes developed for specific, popular CAIs.

As I attempted to allude to before (and failing miserably perhaps), the issue here has always been one of visibility and earned credibility. I am heartened that you are proceeding to rectify both.
As you stated earlier - it indeed would be a good thing for yer custom tuning folks to establish a presence here - we will all benefit from that.

Thanks!
Based on my research, one disadvantage of the Diablo product line is the limited number of experienced F150, 5.4L custom tune writers. Of course if you don't planning on adding mods that require custom tunes, this is not important.

Ok, so whats the significance of buying a canned tuned PHP Gryphon over an Edge Evolution.. other than the fact the Gryphon can be sent back for custom tunes??.. which can obviously be done to the Edge by PHP if you really wanted it too.. late down the road. I want to know is there a difference in their stock canned tuning PHP's Gryphon vs Edge's Evolution, because you have the same exact product it seems, other than bought future capabilities of custom tunes being applied to it.
This matters to me b/c if bought with canned tunes, one vs the other and theres no difference in the tuning than I can save around $75 bucks going with an Evolution right now.. then hey.. on down the road if I need it tuned send it to them and have them convert it and tune it.

ok.. and trans only level.. what exactly does that do? After reading up it does seem the gyphon canned tunes vs Edge canned tunes is the same thing, when bought straight without custom tunes that is. But, I have read up on their ordering process and understand a little more of it.

The canned tuning on a Gryphon appears superior to that provided on an Edge. Many posts state this to be the case - Bill took the opportunity to tweak the canned tunes.
You can save a bit now, but you will pay later if going the Edge route. Plus you will be without a programmer for some time while you send it back in fer conversion.
With a Gryphon, right out of the gate, you keep the programmer if you buy it without custom tuning, then load the custom tunes later ( they are emailed to you - you use the software utilities to do this via yer pc). Costs more, but not by all that much, and less hassle overall.

Ahhh, well .. I just went ahead and ordered the EDGE just now.. great price versus any other places Ive been searching plus free overnight shipping just to good to pass up!!
I been procrastinating for weeks now on getting one..
Woohooo, I cant wait! I got excited when I submitted the order! Its a win/win for me because I dont need custom tunes right now and if I do, then it can be done to it. Plus.. comparing the superchips flashpaq to the edge just isnt the same when you look at what all you get from the edge. Excited!
