Why risk it when you can easily switch to the L2 tow tune? Folks tell me there is also more low-end grunt on that level.

I've been towing a 6x10 utility trailer with my balloon - about 750 pounds of weight in the trailer on the Edge 3 program - but it was recently brought to my attention - as I plan to upgrade to a Gryphon and was asking about custom tunes -that doing what I was - towing on Edge 3 could harm the transmission.

Now I've not seen any evdence of that, but MGDfan has a point - why do it when it takes second to switch to Edge 2 (tow) and you get the benefit of more torque. Like you , the weight I'm towing isn't that significant - not like a travel trailer or 5th wheel - but from here out, I'l use the tow program when the trailer is hooked up. Porbably just good common sense.

What the total combined weight of boat and trailer?
Try not to exceed 2500 lbs.
It would be better to run the towing tune.

if your running 91 octane switch to level 2 and put the timing at +2. After you run for a while like that you wont want to use level 3 anymore anyways

I agree with Paralyzer, I have done the better gas and raised the timing. I also went a step more, I changed the TQ setting to the lowest on all levels and raised the shift MPH up on all levels. My thoughts on this would is, I would keep higher RPMs before TQ would lock and I could keep my RPMS up durring shifting for more power also. Am I correct in my thoughts?

Just some advice on using the edge level 2 tow tune.
The level 2 tow tune DOES NOT have the same fuel tables as the level 3 performance.
Thus you are defeating the gains you could have by running level 3.
Besides the power pukes out at 1800 rpms.

I agree with what you are saying, but I think they are talking about while towing. I think our needs are different, maybe. For freeway driving and 2 lane roads where I need kick at 60 mph, level 2 is gutless. I used level 3 for about 31,000 miles.

I know what you are saying Bluejay.
I was just trying to clarify it for someone who's going to try and use it everyday. Unless they have to because they're running a CAI.

Wow, Level 2 craps out at 1800 RPMs? So... I guess thats what they mean by low end power only.

I guess it is all relative. Many of us have the need to pass in a hurry on 2 lane roads and to accelerate quickly when on freeways around the city. On level 2, it takes too long to wind up, all the torque is concentrated on the low end for towing. On level 3, the torque keeps pulling harder on the top end.

Neither of them would downshift at certain speeds when I needed it and my custom tunes fixed that. I kept level 2 for what little towing I do, and run an 87 Perf tune almost exclusively. I have a 93 Perf tune, but rarely feel the need to run it. My 87 Perf tune out performs the canned level 3.

Yes, a lot of difference. Level 2 has more jump when you take off, but level 3 pulls harder for a lot longer.
