E85 Tunes
E85 Tunes
Does anyone on here have a E85 tune for the 5.4 2V trucks?
I have emailed a few of the bigger named tuners on here and they do not.
I am in MN and there is a SCT authorized tuner and he has done a lot of successful E85 tune's for the mustangs out here in MN. He will tune it and throw it on the dyno to make sure everything is performing correctly, but the tune is $300.
So I am getting a feel for any other E85 tuners and how the drive-ability is for you.

To put it simply... No you don't. I've ran thousands of gallons of it through my F-150.
There are issues, but non are major, and I think that they are amplified by the 300,000+ farm miles on my engine.

Yes it is. The only thing that is different on a FFV engine is the sensor to detect ethanol content. A FFV engine can vary the A/F based on what the sensor tells the PCM. To run E-85 in a regular 5.4 like yours can be done. The tuner just has to correct the A/F for the E-85, but there is a drawback, you can't switch fuels or mix them, you have to run one or the other and have the right tune loaded for the fuel your using.

Um... Not really. Your stock engine can compensate for E-85 just as it compensates for vacuum leaks, and MAF errors. The trick is getting it to compensate quickly. There's such a difference between the A/F ratio of gasoline as compared to the A/F ratio of E-85 that the stock computer doesn't allow such drastic fuel increases all at once. So there's a few tricks that can be done.
I don't know of any sensor that detects E-85. Thats a new one on me.
But I do know that my stock F-150 converts itself to E-85. But there are things to do that will help it.
I'm kinda tired, and I don't feel like explaining it all tonight, but if you're interested, I can tell you how it works and why.

Only raw aluminum. Steel, SS, and anodized aluminum are fine with e-85
I'm from MN as well, and have occasionally run the E-85. I never thought that the mileage drop was as big as advertised, and thought that the truck had a little more pep. I too asked the tuners about writing a tune for E-85, but nobody recommended it, and I err on the side of being very cautious. I currently have tunes from VMP and like em, but would like to put it on the rollers and see how she does as well. Let me know what you decide and how it goes.
I asked Edge about running e85. I have a FFV. They said I can run E85 on level 3 which is written for a higher octane.
The 5.4 has no problem running e85, you just have to make sure your fuel system can handle the high alcohol content. A FFV's fuel system is designed to handle e85.
If you have a FFV with an Edge, you can run e85 on your current tune level 3.

DB Performance here in MN has been tunning FOX BODY mustangs to run E85 for a few years. He did it on his V10 Excursion with no issues. Cold weather start was the only real problem. He said you increase the amount of gas, but you DO NOT need bigger injectors, and increase timing.
Any car can run E85. As for less mileage on E85, I know here it is running about $1.95 to $2.00 Gal compared to 93 @ $2.65 to $2.80 Gal the savings and having 110 octane with E85 is well worth it.
