need advice on tuners
i have an 09 fx4. i only have 2500 miles on it but have allready put rims, bigger tires, bakflip cover and just installed 14" magnaflow with 3.5" ss tips. i love this truck but have only one gripe. it isn't very fast. i wish it was more responsive when i stepped on it. i have been reading alot about these custom tunes. i think i am even more confused about these tuners and which one to buy. i am hoping you guys can recommend some quality tuners. i am looking for custom tunes. one for more power and and better gas mileage. money isn't an object. i want a quality, custom tuner. i wish you guys could post pics of your tuners and what your gauges look like in your trucks. that would be awesome and may make my decision easier. thanks in advance, nsanef150
I am on programmer #2. I started with the DIABLO first. It was great but it does not mount anywhere to keep an eye on things. I know run the EDGE and it is perfect. It mounts in a pod on the driver side dash next to the A-pilar. It(like others) reads trouble codes but also 1/8 and 1/4 mile times and speeds, 0-60 time and speed, etc...... Plus you can change the tune to TOW should you be pulling a trailer. I am very happy with it. Just my 2 cents and hope it helps with your decision making.
The Edge has canned tunes. If you want the most performance with the same hardware as the Edge(gauges), get the Gryphon from PHP. Bill writes custom tunes for your truck and the shifting/downshifting is much better than the canned tunes.
The Edge is very good, the Gryphon is better.

what is the basic difference in canned tunes vs. custom tunes? also, can you guys post some pics as to what your gauges look like and where you mounted them. i am so confused at some of these tuners. i thought php was the cannned tunes and the edge was better. does the php have a nice monitor with a mounting pod?

Canned tunes are one size fits all, and are written for stock engines. By their nature, they leave a little on the table so as to be safe for many different years and conigurations. Custom tunes go a step further, getting a bit more power from your specific setup as well as better shifting and better downshifting. Custom also takes into consideration what YOU want a tuner to do and if you have a CAI.
I put 30,000 on a stock tune, 30,000 on canned tunes and now 30,000 on PHP custom tunes. The custom tuned Gryphon is the only way I want to go.
