Do yourself a big favor and get the Gryphon with an 87 Performance tune.

Isn't the gryphon just an edge painted black? I know it's not but what is the major differences, making it better?

The Gryphon can be custom tuned..... The Edge cannot.

The Edge and the Gryphon are the same hardware. In fact PHP buys the hardware from Edge. Bill, at PHP develops the canned tunes for Edge. The difference is that in order for Edge to keep their CARB certification, their units cannot be modified. So PHP sells the Gryphon that can be custom tuned. There is a lot of difference between the custom and the canned tunes. I put about 30,000 miles on my Edge with the canned tunes abd thought I was happy. I got an 87 Performance and a 93 Performance tunes from PHP and there is a lot of difference. Well worth the money. I have over 30,000 on the custom tunes as well.

Think of it this way. The canned tunes are one size fits all, generic. So, they leave a little on the table, to be safe and to accomplish the "fits all". Also, they are written for a stock engine. If you have a CAI or want to add one, you need custom tunes. The custom tunes are written for your specific truck and setup. Have a little more power and much better shifting characteristics.

Bluejay,
Thanks for the detailed explanation, now I have a good understanding on why the other is different than the other. Might be getting a gryphon soon then, never knew that the edge was tuned for a stock setup engine.

Yes. The Gryphon comes with the same canned tunes that are in the Edge. It's the ability to get custom tunes from PHP that makes the difference. PHP has never gotten the CARB certification(California), so they can modify the programs with custom tunes without losing anything.
