Edge Evolution or Superchip Flashpaq...

Hey guys. I have a 2001 with the 5.4. Now that the Gryphon is no longer available for my year model, I was wondering which you guys would suggest. The canned Evolution or the Flashpaq. I'm looking to get one used so if anyone has any type of programmer to sell let me know too.

P.S.~ If anyone has any other info on different programmers (ex. Xcal, Hypertech, etc.) let me know. I'm wanting info on power gains, MPG increase, and any other info that you guys can offer.

I've yet to hear anything negative on the Edge, or Superchip for that matter. I've heard the Edge is great, and if you mess with it a little you can get a nice setup out of it.

On the other hand, I've used Hypertech personally, and I thought it was a huge waste of money, but I've heard some liked them as well.

Personally I'd probably go with the Edge.

Do you want gauges or just a programmer?

Definetly have to vote for customs over canned.

No gauge options-xcal3-php,vmp,troyer
6 position flip chip-php

If you want to run a gauge set up go with scangauge(gauges only)

I saw the announcement via this forum. They discontinued programming for this year cause the Edge cable was shotty or something along those lines. Didn't want to sell people a product that was gonna break (not b/c of php ut due to edge). I'm on my phone right now so it'd be a pain to go find the link. If anyone can help me out and post it up I'd appreciate it.

As far as the programmer, are the gauges on the Edge as aurate as the Scangauge. I'm most concernd with the accuracy of the MPG gauge. I'm really gonna try to start driving more economically and I think the gauge would help a lot. If it is accurate that'd be 2 birds 1 stone because I was wanting to get a programmer and the scangauge. But Edge may be the cheaper (and better from what you guys say) way to go.

1) Weight of fuel varies & tire revs/mile varies and the calculated mpg may not be correct.

2) The devices read the same information.

3) Edge is not better than the others, it is just an option.

My opinion is to use a flip chip with 3 tunes, Perf-Econ-Tow & stick to one octane. You can change tunes on the fly, depending on what you need. If you seriously need something to keep your foot off the peddle, get a vacuum gauge. More vacuum = better mpg.
