so does anyone make a parsing tool to abstract the hex file?
If so wouldn't it be possible to modify the hex file and create a MOT file to flash the EProm of the PCM with an emulator such as an Renesas E1?
Thus eliminating the need for a programmer?

LOL, are you asking me how to do what we do, for free?

Lot of work to map the hex file, edit it and get it to go back in, then you gotta figure out how to deal with the checksums, not so simple

I am not asking to do what you do, however this is the type of work i do on a daily basis with other products. I thought it would be fun to try to play with my truck. Ive just never had to reverse engineer the mapping of a hex file. Thought maybe there was common knowledge out there available already for the old trucks like mine.

I'd buy a spare PCM or two to play with on the bench before you start testing on your truck.

It does seem like a lot of work considering everything you are looking to do is already done and commercially available, but could be fun
