quick 5.4 upgrade

hey I have an '06 supercab 4x4 with the 3v 5.4 It's basically stock but with a leveling kit and 285 BFG KM2s. But when I put the leveling kit on it dropped my gas mileage from around 14-15 to 11-12 so I was looking to get a good programmer and air intake to give me a little extra power and my mileage back. So what programmer/ intake combo would give me the the best mileage increase and power gain? I would be willing to use premium gas if the mileage increase caused it to pay for itself.

ok thanks. do you think a custom tune like that is a lot better than like an edge evolution or something like that?

the gryphon is basicly an edge that can be custom tuned but I prefer the xcal2 and I'd love to have an Xcal3

yea i see. I'm prolly just gonna go w/ the edge. I could probably get a little more power with a custom tune but i don't want to have to deal with all the mailing stuff back and forth and all. But i haven't made up my mind completely. But if I do get the edge and do the 93 octane tune, will that extra money i pay for in gas be made up for in mileage?

^^^I have heard it does. I am currently running the level 2 tow tune for 87 octane and I have not put 93 in my truck yet to test that out.

I have the Edge and it has saved my *** in gas...well over stock anyways! With 37's now I still get about two more mpg. I'm pretty pleased with it but I might go with the Gryphon because I would like to see what can happen.

i personally wouldnt waste my money on a cai do to the fact they pretty much suck the same amount of air till you hit about 3500 rpms and up. and even then its only about a 8 hp gain and i would rather spend 300 $s on somthin else. i would get the GRYphon do to the fact that it is almost the same price as the edge and if you decide to do more mods you can have the gryphon tune vurses sending your edge to POWERHUNGRYPERFORMANCE to have it converted into a gryphon and being out even more money!!

I would wait on the intake till you get custom tunes. We tend to run a bit lean with an intake and custom tunes will remedy that.

As for the CAI of choice, alot of people including me went with the S&B. Its an enclosed intake and puts out pretty good numbers.

I was told by 4 wheel parts that the only company that actually measures the increase in horsepower gain with a CAI is K & N and they say it's only rated at 12-18 horsepower gain. But it still runs about $240.

Great to know 4WP knows everything, I'll keep that in mind!

if i wasn't going to get an air intake, what would yall recommend? I don't want to do anything very drastic because i'm still under warranty. I know a programmer voids it but if something happens i can just flah the stock tunes into it. I'm looking for something less than 500 bucks just to get some more power and/or mileage
