My Gryphon has arrived...early!

Got my Gryphon today...to my surprise, 2 days sooner than UPS was expecting.

Initial Thoughts

My 4.6L is officially awake. I installed my Gryphon tonight and took a quick 15 minute ride to give it a try at Level 1.

WOW!

It goes when I want it to go. No more throttle hesitation, at all. The improved shifting is very nice. It feels like my truck has lost 500lbs. Or more. It is just plain fun to drive. Should have been my first mod. I couldn't get that stupid grin off of my face for the first drive.

Sent in my HEX code tonight. Cant wait for custom tunes!

All that from level 1? I don't want to be near when you try levels 2 and 3!

Ill have to wait until this tank is empty to try level 3. Ill try level 2 tomorrow on the way to work. I thought I read something about the towing tune not being as good on the highway, but just good around town. What are your thoughts on all 3 levels?

Level 1 is just a shift tune. No real power boost. Level 2 is a tow tune, so very strong power on take off but loses power at higher rpms. Still better than the stock tune, though. Level 3 pulls hard as long as you keep your foot in it. I ran level 3 for 30,000 miles and loved it until I got Bill's 87 Performance tune.

So basically...I need to empty this tank and fill up with 93. Then set it to Level 3 and keep it there until I get my custom tunes....

Yeah...youre right...Level 2 is the bomb! I know Ford tries to appease a wide customer base by tuning it the way they do, and having the truck shift the way it does. But man, they way this thing is running now with the Gryphon makes me think they would sell even more by tuning it for more performance. I cant wait until this tank is empty so I can try Level 3 Performance!

Thought you might get a kick out of this. This is on my invoice from PHP:

Jim (Bluejay) mentioned that his 87 Performance tune will downshift at any speed. Not sure exactly what things were modified for his tunes, but the more and more he talks about his custom tune, the more I think that I want something just like he is describing. Since his truck is not heavily modified either, can I get something similar or exactly like his?

That's funny! I hope it works as well on your truck. I would really hate to give my tunes up.
