Just a quick question an what yall belive is the best overall programmer for the 2004-2008 5.4

that'll be the two you hear about the most on these forums. Just got to make sure you get custom tunes for your truck.

Overall do you want something that you can adjust on the fly and monitor your stats? or do you want to plug in once and drive. Thats the biggest difference from the xcal and the gryphon.

 

Just to clarify, no gas engine tuner can be adjusted on the fly, only diesels. You have to stop and go thru a couple of steps to change settings with the Gryphon.

 

Also a Troyer XCal 3 is another good one as well!

 

Yes, I missed that he was not included. You can't go wrong with an Xcal3 tuned by VMP or Troyer Performance, or a Gryphon tuned by PHP. You need to read some threads in the Tuning section to learn the differences between the hardware.

 

I have read numerous threads on here about the Gryphon and SCT. I have a friend who is an SCT dealer. At one point I was starting to lean gryphon, but, it seems there is one guy who does custom tuning on the Gryphon (edge). SCT has reputable tuners and dealers all over the place.

As for the data logging capabilities ... I have data logger software on laptops I prefer anyway.

While I am in no way saying the Gryphon is no good, I personally prefer the SCT.

 

The primary difference is that the Gryphon offers a monitor that you mount on the dash. You can monitor just about all temps, voltage ect, 4 at a time. I love the gauges. I monitor engine temp, oil temp, tranny temp and altenator voltage.

 

The Gryphon's monitor was one of the main selling features for me when I was looking; that and the hour long conversation with PHP. That is one patient individual.

Whatever company you decide on, just make sure to get something. I can't believe how much better my truck is after the install.

Yes, but unless it has come down in price, was so much more expensive, few considered it.

 

I would say a gryphon. If you use the search feature or just read this part of the forums you will see why.

 

Can you explain why you choose to monitor these particular items? I know you have your reasons....I just want to know what they are. I will be getting a gryphon soon. Thanks.

 

I agree, it was more than I should have spent. I could have gotten an xcal and half a gryphon for what I got the livewire for. I do like it though, but could have gotten more.
