New F 150 owner/fuel improvement help

Just bought a 2005 F 150 with the 5.4L motor. Installed a cold air induction system today. I am trying to do everything I can improve the gas mileage. I bought a module to hook onto the IAT sensor. After receiving it I am a bit skeptical about it working. Does anyone have any information that would help me improve the fuel mileage or any information regarding a module that clips into the IAT wires? Thanks. I love the truck.

I can't help you with the IAT, but I just got done doing a bunch of stuff I went from 13.5 to 18.5 average and 22 on the highway. I have an 06 5.4 4x4 xcab. I did a Volant CAI, Electric fans, Magnaflow exhaust and a Gryphon tuner from PHP. I thing the exhaust and e-fans did the most and spent the least. Fans were about 100 and the muffler was 84 bucks.

iat is bogus, you want better fuel economy for your money, keep speed under 65 on highway,no jackrabbit starts, air pressure monitored, dumping money into mods will take you forever to get your return back-my .02$...

Join the Club. I purchased an 05 Supercrew just before Christmas and joined this Forum, lots a great info and people.

Before you spend any money, you might want to save some for the problem you most likely will have changing the plugs. Do not attempt to change the plugs before searching this forum for advice, the plugs are breaking apart. The other item of importance are the fuel injectors. It seems that the 05 has a problem with them which could cause you to loose your engine.

What kind of mileage are you getting now? Driving conditions?

06 Screw 5.4 FX4 with MBRP SI/SO and Edge on Program 2. I have a 15 mile round trip to work everyday. Speed limits from 45mph to 30mph and then running kids everywhere all week. So it's basically 95% city. I'm getting 15.875 by checking it the old fashioned way and my Edge reads 15.6 AVMPG.

Just playing with ya, Phil. But, yes, I really do agree with you on the stuff you mentioned above.

Actually, I have a bit of a cold and I DID have a migraine for three days earlier in the week... Oh no, perhaps I should see a doctor.

Thanks to everyone who posted. My next investment is in the exhaust system. Is the injector problem something that appears to be a chronic issue, or just a hit and miss issue? Thanks to all again.

Oh, I'm doing mostly freeway driving. Too old and too tired to jump on the throttle anymore (translates to my girlfriend won't let me). Haven't made it through a whole tank, but the little digital read out says about 14 mpgallon. Hoping to get it closer to 18 or 19. We shall see....

The person behind the wheel has a bigger effect on the truck's mileage than anything else. I usually average between 16-18mpg on my daily 100 mile commute. Last week we had heavy fog in the morning and I could only travel around 50 to 55 mph top's. I had just filled up so I checked my mileage and it showed 19.4 mpg, best ever. Amazing for a heavy 4x4 Screw with 35" tires. Driving slower "when practical" will save gas more than any mod's to the truck.
