Time For My Custom Tunes -- Question

Ok boys, this week I am going to go ahead and pull the trigger on a set of custom tunes for my truck.

I have an '05 Regular Cab-Short Box configuration with the 5.4 engine and factory 3.73 gears. I already have a Magnaflow cat back system on the vehicle, and am running 305/40/22 rubber. Right now I am really only interested in the High Performance tunes, although I may throw a 87 Towing tune in the order just in case I ever decide to use my truck as a tow vehicle for a show car.

A quick question for you guys who are familiar with how these trucks respond to a custom tune -- how much am I really leaving on the table if I stick with the stock intake rather than going with a CAI?

I would guess at 10-12 hp.

Ok, to give me a point of reference, how much gain with CAI versus without? For example, if the gain with a stock intake and a 93 Performance tune is around 25 HP, then an additional 10-12 HP because of the CAI would be pretty substantial.

Yes, I think you will get somewhere in the neighborhood of 1/3 additional. You don't get a lot out of the CAI without the tune to take advantage of the additional air.

You should call one of the tuners, and discuss it with them.

An additional 1/3 gain would be substantial -- I'll definitely discuss it when I go to order.

Please feel free to call us 678-963-9913 if you'd like our opinion of the CAI. We won't try and sell you anything -- I promise -- and we get this question at least once a day!
