Custom Tune ?

I have a 2007 4.6 and I am looking to get a CAI probably AFE because it is oil free, and a bbk throttle body. I was wondering if either of these would require a custom tune. I currently have jba shorties (just installed, and it was a pain in the rear) and true duals and a superchip that i would have to replace if this would require custom tuning. Also what else besides engine swap could i do for some more hp.
Thanks for your help.

save your money, the tb may give you throttle response at the most, and a well done tune will offer you that, the true duals, as you only have shorties, don't deem a custome tune necessary, a cai would-phil

So i would need a custom tune with the CAI and that would mean a new tuner or would the canned tune with my Superchip be fine?

i'm not 100% sure on this ,but i believe 4.6's aren't as touchy to intake changes as 5.4's, if that is the case- you'll be fine with the superchips tuner-but ultimately a custom tune will yield the most power.

right the 2 valve 4.6 is not very touchy with the intake, however unless he ports and polishes his TB elbow then the larger TB is pointless, the shorties are also nothing more than a note changer on the exhaust.

A custom tune will be his best perfomance/mileage increaser

ok. Thanks guys. I did do the shorties for the more aggressive exhaust and i could deff. tell a diff. in the sound, hopefully mpg will go up also, but not this tank. I just cant keep my foot out of it.

Another thing would magnaflow hi flow cats need any custom tuning?
What other perf. mods would you guys suggest?

Does anyone know if Superchips would do a custom tune for a CAI,
I have talked to some people and they said that they used to, and then some chevy owners say that superchips gave them a custom tune for a CAI, so do they?

To my knowledge, Superchips does not do custom tunes for the 5.4 3v. You need to understand that there may be someone else tuning these trucks but they really need a lot of knowledge and experience. Around here, most look to three guys for custom tunes. Justin at VMP, Mike at Troyer Performance both tune using the Xcal3 while Bill at Power Hungry Performance tunes using the Gryphon. All are very good, successful and have great customer service.
