Edge Evo guys...

So i'm selling my hypertech(let me know if your interested) because I want to buy the Edge because of the in cab display mainly. Im sure the tunes on it are a little better, i have acctually been fairly pleased with my hypertech.

One of the main things i was interested in is that i thought i read somewhere that the Edge could display "instant MPG" as well as "avarage MPG". is this true? Im really hoping so because i would really love the "IMPG" feature. If it does do you think its pretty accurate?

Also, does the gryphon have these features?

Thanks,
SouthernStyle

Yes, it has them tho I do not use them. I monitor temps and voltage. The Gryphon is the same as the Edge except it comes with an option for custom tunes. The Gryphon is the way to go. I have had both.

thanks for the quick reply! So does the $345 gryphon come with the canned Edge tunes with the option to bump up later, or do you have to bump up to the custom tunes immediatly? get what im saying?

thanks,

I think the Gryphon for your truck is closer to $495 or so. It is the same hardware as the Edge, just black instead of grey, and comes with the same canned tunes. Plus, it comes with the option for custom tunes when you know what mods you want to do. The custom tunes have a little more HP but much better shifting and downshifting. Also, you can get 87 Econo or Performance and 91 or 93 Performance.

so picking up a used Edge for at, or less than, $300 is a good deal? and then later on down the road a $35 upgrade to gryphon and $50 per custome tune is a better option, do i have that right? (sorry but im an EMT/Paramedic student and am definitely tight on funds.)

Thanks for the help bluejay,

You are right but from your signature it looks like you have a lot of mods to your truck and I'm not sure from my research if canned tunes are the way to go for you. Might cause some issues due to the intake to your engine.

yeah, the canned tunes are not designed to work with the CAI. with any canned tuner(or the stock tune for that matter), you run the risk of running lean. but it probably would be cheaper to get a cheap used edge and upgrade it to the gryphon. just make sure that the guy you buy it from has re-set his truck to the stock tune or else it wont work on your truck.

I would not run your CAI with canned tunes. Just would not take the risk. Edge's canned tunes are written for the stock intake.

Yes, a used Edge at $345 would save some money, but vwery little. You add the conversion to a Gryphon, $35 and say two tunes, $100, you are at $480. I would just buy the new Gryphon and not take any chances with a used Edge. If you got it for $250 or so, then sure.
