Question I'm a little confused?

about programers and tunes...I want to get an Edge Programmer...but after reading some of the threads on here...i am confused

What are these "tunes" that everyone keeps talking about? are these just custom configurations of the programmers?

any help or knowledge on these is greatly appreciated. Thanks

well, a very basic explanation of this is:

Tune = Engine program (Air/Fuel ratio, transmission shift points, etc)

the Edge comes with Canned tunes. 3 of them. they are different engine calibrations and transmission shift points based on your use. there is a transmission improving tune, a towing tune, and a performance tune with 91 octane.

these tunes are all generic to the F150. if you have any mods, or plan to down the road, dont waste your money on an edge. look into the Gryphon by power hungry performance. it is custom tuned edge with a black case. The order form will ask you information suck as gear ratio, any mods you have (ie. lift, CAI, exhaust, etc) and bill will take all this information and write a custom "tune" or program for your specific truck. the Gryphon has 3 tunes as well. for example, on Mine I have a tune for 87 performance (performance with 87 octane), a towing tune with 87 octane, and the canned 3rd tune (I have not had a used to get a 3rd custom tune for my truck). I have a Cold air intake, which will affect my A/F ratio and Bill writes the proper program for my engine to fix the Lean issue.

Anyway, forget the edge, buy a Gryphon for only a little more and you will be much happier when you do other mods to your truck.

hope this helps, and please anyone, correct anything wrong I have said

If you buy a gryphon it usually ships same day, and takes about a week or so to get to you. So lets say you plan on adding mods like pulleys and intake those mods require a custom tune, so with your purchased Gryphon you get 3 inclusive custom tunes. Your going to tell bill what mods you have/plan on getting and he will calibrate accordingly. Exhaust doesn't necesarily need a tune.
Heres a perfect scenario..
Order the gryphon today. While waiting for your physical gryphon to get to your door step, spend time talking to bill to find out what mods are worth while and what mods make "ACTUAL" increases. by the time Bill fills your head with ooodles of info your Gryphon should be at your house. use the canned tunes for the time being, and decide what mods you really need/want and order them along with place your order for the 1-3 included Gryphon custom tunes that will utilize your mods. that way when your mods come in your tunes should be about ready(depending on how back logged Bill is?)?

When you buy the gryphon, it has "canned" tunes already on it, much like the Edge. It really can wake the truck up, and help out with some added power. You can hold off on the "custom" tunes, until you have bought more mods. Then, once you have some of those things you wanted, you contact Bill or Corey at PHP, and have them right specific tunes for your application. I believe, when you purchase the unit, you get three custom tunes. After that, if you have any drastic changes, you can contact PHP, and work something out with them. Its their product, so I don't want to be spouting off prices. I HIGHLY suggest giving them a call. Talk to them, and ask them directly any questions you have. Thats what i did, I called around to the "big three" and Bill seemed the most friendly, and knowledgeable(sp?) of the bunch. Between a couple talks with him, and plenty of e-mails sent to Corey (and answered quickly !! ), not to mention all the praise he has EARNED on this site I was set on going with PHP and a gryphon. Check them out, do your homework, and make your choice !
