New member with a question

Hey there everyone! Been lurking here for a while and after yesterday I figured i'd finallly register.

I have a 2007 FX4 screw with 23k miles. I finally have had the time and money to get a few things done

Yesterday I had a sido flowmaster 50 installed with stainless tips out behind the tires. I also bought and installed the Banks High Ram air intake and a Edge Evolution.

Few questions????
1. I was going between the magnaflow and the flowmaster 50, which was convinced to go with the 50 over the magnaflow, so when I go to buy the CAI kit and the programmer, the guy says I should of gotten the magnaflow! He says the fords run better with the magnaflow for some reason? Is this true, and if so , why?

2. Regarding the Edge, I had a full tank of 87 so I didn't want to run the 3rd setting too much. Right now i have it in tow mode (setting 2)

??? When I floor it the tranny kicked real hard a few times at about 50 mph, whats the problem???

I'm thinking it's the shift points but what do I know...

?? About custom tuning, do I need to send the edge to pmp for custom tuning??? How much better is it???

Any help would be greatly appreciated !!!

Welcome to the site

I've never heard or read anything about the flowmaster not playing well with the 150. There may be a slight difference in performance, which would depend on which camp your in, but if there is any it's minute. Now I have read that an exhaust + a cai will not play well with the Edge since it is designed specifically for a stock truck.

Send your Edge to www.powerhungryperformance.com and you'll be set.

A slowmaster is the wost muffler you can buy for power/TQ a magnaflow is a straight-through design unlike the flowmaster witch has a bunch of baffles in it, they are only good for noise. try to find a cut out image and you will see.

as for your shifting doing a 4-2 downshift from 50 your trans wont last long doing that. that the OD off if you are going to be doing that.

as for the edge I would sell that thing and get you an Xcal2 with some custom tunes

YOu lose a little torqe with the Flowmaster, but I like the sound much better. That torque is only important if you're doing heavy towing or racing. Otherwise, enjoy the sound. As for the Edge, send it to PHP and convert it to a Gryphon with custom tunes. They are awesime.

thanks for the responces. When I first got the flowmaster 50, it sounded like a mustang. After I added the Banks cold air kit, it gt a little louder. How much can I expect to pay to change the flowmaster to a magnaflow? Is it as simple as welding on the magnaflow or will the pipes have to be redone cause the outlets are different?

I'm thinking about sending my edge to PHP for the custom tunes and was wondering exactly how it works. Do they customize according to your driving habits or do they just have custom settings for different driving patterns?

What will be difference when I get it back?

They will reskin your Edge to convert it to the Gryphon and send it back to you. You will fill out a sheet telling what mods you have and what shifting characteristics you want. They will email custom tunes to you and once you load those, about the only thing you change is the ires size, if need be.

They have a form you fill out which asks for specifics related to what you use your truck for and what you have done to it. From there they will calibrate the tunes to best suit your needs.

The trucks performance characteristics will be totally different. Shift points are sharper, longer revs between shifts, better throttle response, amazing wot. You'll be smilin'

1. Re-load your stock tune
2. Send the Edge to PHP
3. Tell them not to send it back to you until the custom tunes are pre loaded for you.

You'll be several weeks without a tuner but when you do get it back it will be ready to go. This is the route I took mainly due to fear of downloading and possible pc problems. After all, were talking about re programming our trucks computer, not something I want to take to many risks with.

phil6608 has flowmasters on his 11 second supercrew, my procharged truck has a flowmnaster and I have a hard time with traction

I prefer the flowmaster sound over the maggie...

I agree with everyone here so far: the custom tune will make a huge difference in power anyway and having the edge turned into a gryphoon is worth the $$$$

Well I'm from ear to ear right now. I just got off the phone with the kind folks over at PHP and have it set to get my new custom tunes on Friday. Going to make the 1:15 minute drive there and have them done right before my very eyes...

Thumbs up

You'll enjoy your 1 on 1 with PHP. You treat them good, they'll treat you better.
