why?
why?
why is it a diesel with a plug and play chip can get 150HP and 200 FTLBS of TQ but if i get a plug and play chip im lucky to get 20HP and 30 FTlbs of TQ? ive never understood why diesels gain sooo much more from a chip. Thanks guys...mainly thump
The basic answer is because the Diesel is Turbocharged. The more air you can add to the cylinder the more fuel you can add. Turning up the boost adds more air. To turn up the boost and add fuel you need only change the programming. How do you add more air and fuel on your Naturally Aspirated engine? Tuning only adds a little. You have to physically make more room in the cylinder or allow more air to flow to the cylinder. Bolt ons will allow more air to flow to the cylinder.

PS. I added a supercharger and picked up about 100 more ponies.

Diesels have greater compression that gasoline engines....like 20:1+. There's more air than needed for normal conditions, so by upping the fuel pressure...you make better use of all that air. You get a whole lot more power.
yeah ive been wanting to get a supercharger...i see Eaton M-90's EVERYwere but i cant find any M-112's someone said theres a way to make the M-90's fit because i can get one for 100 bucks. or i can get one off a supercoupe for 140 bucks and that has the intercooler and everything. i just need a way to put it on! lol.
How come from the factory diesels are so under tuned? thanks JMC

Everyone has already said it all.
The reason why they are so under tuned from the factory is simple. Reliability and durability. The mfgs know that the people buying diesels are usually pulling some heavy loads, probably exceeding their limits as well, so they'd rather cover their butt by under tuning them.
