can i change my intake w/o custom tuning again on 4.6

when i get my tuner and get some custom tunes for the stock intake, can i get a new intake without getting new custom tunes? i have the 4.6 so i dont have to worry about running lean. my thought is that the maf will tell the tuner that there's more air, so no custom tunes, but i just wanna make sure. thanks.

If you go with one of the normal air intakes than no you shouldn't need a custom tune. However, just because you've got a MAF sensor, it doesn't mean it's going to compensate for it. The 3V motors have MAF sensors but it just doesn't work out. What air intake are you planning on going with?

You could always just contact your tuner and have them tweak the tune for the new intake so that its perfect. Very simple, doesn't take much time, and eliminates any kind of risk.

Agreed. Hopefully he's got a reputable tuner who will do it.

i dont have a tuner yet, i was just wondering. if the 2V's wont run lean on the stock tune, why should it work differently with a tuner? just wondering.

and mSaLL, i probably will get custom tunes for an intake, but i just wanna know if it will work without one. i probably should have asked someone like php or vmp, but i knew y'all would be willing to help. thanks.

Another option is the SCT Livewire which has gauges and can be custom tuned.

i was looking at livewiretuner.com and, unfortunately, it says that the livewire is only available for the 2004-07 4.6L but i really like how you can check your air/fuel ratio. first off, if i could get the LW, what "external a/f devices" would i need? second are there any other tuners with this function?

thanks for everybody's help.

The Livewire works with any vehicle that has a ODBII port with custom tunes.

What do you mean?

second are there any other tuners with this function?

As far as the website says, it works with all vehicles with a ODBII, some functions on it don't work on some vehicles though. Such as the traction control, 2-Step RPM , etc.

All FORD 1996+ w/ OBD2 ports should be able to be custom tuned, with pre-loaded tunes available for certain vehicles shown here: http://www.sctflash.com/PDF/LW.pdf
