F150 5.4 programmer
Xcal2 or Xcal3 from VMP Tuning.

The Edge sucks compared to custom tuning. It might work for some people but I had it and had to ditch it because of quite a few problems which Edge could not rectify. I wish I would of just bought the Xcal2 in the beginning because it ended up costing me a whole lot more money. The Xcal2 and Xcal3 is custom tuneable. It can read trouble codes. It can be switched to any other vehicle with a ODBII as long as you buy tunes for it, etc.

To be frank, there is not an answer to such a broad and subjective question. Every one is going to have their own opinion. The topic is beaten to death repeatedly on here.
I will try to steer you in the right direction.
Most will agree that a tune will be the best bang for your buck modification.
After that... it's all subjective. The Edge and the SCT X3 are popular. Then you get into the issues of custom tunes and canned tunes. And who is the best custom tuner? There's not going to be an answer to this sort of "best" type question. Troyer Performance, VMP, and Power Hungry Performance all offer custom tuning that individuals on this forum will swear by.
In closing. READ! There are literally hours upon hours of reading material on here. You just need to do the research. You navigated the site well enough to put this thread in the right category. If you can do that, you can dig up some of the info that you're looking for. Have fun!

well said!
but you can always get edge to send you custom tunes and X3 and X2 just seem like a burden to get tunes made just for that sole purpose when edge offers more and has the option of other certain things that can pertain to your needs such as gauges and **** but its all about what you use it for

the main thing is that the majority of people will agree that a custom tune is better than a canned tune

I've used the Edge and Xcal2, not the Gryphon though. My point is regardless of who you choose or what programmer, it needs to be custom tuning, otherwise you're wasting time and money ...
I have used the Edge. Now I run a Gryphon and love it. The Edge was great, I just wanted more. Powerhungryperformance.com is were I got the Gryphon. They can also tune the Xcal 2and3. VMP makes great tunes also and they use the Xcal 2and3. Can't say anything bad about the custom tunes.
