4.6 gains with VMP tunes

Getting ready to pull the trigger on a VMP custom tune for my '07 4.6 V8 SuperCrew. Anyone else have the VMP on their 4.6, or any tune for that matter? Does a tune really wake up this dog of a motor enough to justify the roughly $400 expense of the tuner? What about gas mileage? Towing?

Yes, it's going to make a huge difference. Gas mileage is going to go up slightly. Towing is going to be better since you'll have more power and torque.

Plus you will be gaining Thumper as a life-long friend*. At the end of the day isnt that worth more than all the HP in the world

*Free with purchase, limited time only. Some restrictions may apply. Free life-long friend does not apply to Raptor or manual

Be nice. Thumpers OK for a car guy.

aggie - the tuning makes the vehicle run like it should, and shift like it should. Whether it's worth the money is up to you

I'm all about making it perform as it should. Right now it feels like a dog. I just didn't want to waste my money. Any more constructive input is welcome. Keep it coming! Thanks.

I spoke with Troyer a year ago. He said with a CAI and a tuner I could put down 5.4 dyno numbers with my 4.6 that is really about the only thing I can say. I am sure it is worth $400, they sell more of these than they can program

i acutally just installed my VMP tunes today on my 4.6 and I really like them. The truck does run like it's should. I'm only running the 87 performance right now I can't wait to try the 93. By the way aggieben04, if that refers to the Texas Aggies, then WHOOP! I grew up in College Station

Really changed my 4.6, I have a edge with a PHP tune, but they are all similar, just get a dyno tune with whatever for best results

It made a huge difference in my truck. The 87 performance and 93 performance are both great. I average around 18 mpg on the 93 performance, when I keep my foot out of it. Shifting is greatly improved also. VMP custom tunes are totally worth the money.

Just don't expect as much oomph between 87 to 93 as you did stock to custom. I'd be surprised if you noticed much at all.

I noticed pretty much the same with my tuner. 93 Hi performance tune seemed to have a deeper stronger exaust sound but not much more power. Every now and then I switch back and forth but eventually I will see if a dyno tells me what my seat of the pants already thinks.
