SLR Performance Chip

I clicked on the ad for the SLR motorsports website, and saw the performance chip they were selling for $69. It claimed to give +50hp and +50ft lb torque, and improve gas mileage by 3 - 6 mpg. Are these claims reliable, especially for the price or should I keep looking for something different?

My experience with these types of things have been laughable. A buddy of mine tried to sell me a "chip" for my camaro back in college, he showed me his and it was nothing more than a circuit that fed a constant reading to the mass air flow sensor. Probably cost a nickel at the hardware store, but they got him for $50. I'd say it's not worth your time or money, however, if you're bored and have the money, they do offer a 100% money back guarantee, just read all the fine print. Be wary of anyone who doesn't explain HOW it works.

oh one of those resistors that fools the ECU into thinking it is cold and richens the fuel mix to compinsate for the added density in cold air.... if anything that should lower you gas mileage it seems?

I think you're dead on here Thumper! I've been seeing these "get 3+ mpg and 50+ hp for only $50 + postage ads for more years than you've been on this earth. There was a pretty cool old dude named P.T. Barnum who supposedly said something about: "A sucker born every minute".

And, even if he really didn't say that, it's a pretty apt quote.

"Get something for nothing" - right!!

Thanks for the info guys... I had a feeling it was too good to be true. I mean it's just a chip!! A passive component that like you said can be bought at radio shack for $.50!! Good thing I read further to see what is included in that package... a chip, some leads, and velcro tape. I guess the price markup is in the velcro tape!!
I read other threads about the Gryphon tuner... that one looks pretty cool. I like the display where you can read different things that are going on with your truck while you're tooling down the road. I may give them a call one day and see what can be done for me.

There's some sound reasoning! You won't regret a dime invested with PHP!

You called him an "a$$ clown"

slr performance chips

there is no way a $70 chip can give you 50+ hp. there is no chip out there that can add that much to a gas engine. the most is like 30 hp. and how can that add almost 6 mpg? that would be a 60% increase for my truck. no way in hell.

I'm pretty sure we already established that 4 months ago when this thread died.
