Bad Superchips Tuner....Help?

Hi,

Found a cheap Tuner for my truck that I thought was a smoking deal. As I figured out after reading on this thread, looks like I got roasted. As soon as I plug it in, I get the VIN Locked. Still goes through for a bit but will not let me tune.

What are my options? Will Superchips help? Is there someone who can fix this if I plug this tuner into my computer? Just want to know what I can do at this point.

You’re going to have to contact a Superchips dealer and discuss you options and how much it will cost; sorry to hear that crap happened to you, good luck, hope you can get it unlocked for not to many $

Yup, just like you said man.

They want $100 to re burn it and they said I would have to also pay for them to ship it out once I send it to them. For me to ship it out to them it'll be like $20 at the most. They charge $40 for the one way back. Add it all up, taxes, duty, etc, I'd be better off buying it new.

Aside from superchips, what else is available for relatively cheap?

Oh yeah, it's a 1998 ford expedition 4.6L.

1 more thing. I need it to change and firm up the shift points as well as run off of 87 octane.

Maybe superchips charges less for the older tunes, as I heard it was $200 to unlock one without a receipt.

I can tune that truck no problem, but an SCT x-cal2 runs $395 with 3 custom tunes. Or an X3 runs $399. I can whip up a pretty good mileage tune for that vehicle.

I'll call Mike direct. Thanks for your help torkum!

Justin, if this don't work, I'll probably get you to get me a tune through xcal.

*I was thinking of going with sniper. Any opinion on that?

It's starting to slightly ping at close to WOT sometimes. I never go WOT. Very close but a hair off of WOT.

If it can't be fixed for a price you want to pay sell it on ebay as a code scanner.
