Fuel Economy Tune?

Thinking about getting the X3 custom tuned from VMP. Does anybody have any experience with a "Fuel Economy" tune? Like how the driveability compares to the stock tune. I was thinking about going with 87 Performance, 93 Performance and 87 fuel economy since I don't do any hauling and could always go back to stock if I had to.

I am wondering if there is a tune for the 2008 yet for better fuel economy. I can't find anything...

I originally ordered my X3 Power Flash with 91 Performance, 91 Towing, & 91 Economy. 91 is the highest octane available in my state unless I were running race fuel.

The economy tune was slow & sluggish compared to the performance tune. I felt like I got no throttle response from the accelerator pedal. Consequentially, I was stepping on the gas pedal a little bit more because I felt like I couldn't get the truck to move the way I wanted. With the performance tune, I was able to drive with a very light foot and the car was picking up and going. I got less mileage with the economy tune because I was heavier with my foot. Hard to believe, right?

Granted it's a different vehicle. But I've got a 93 octane performance and mpg tune in my car. I can get a consistent 20-21 mpg on the performance tune. However on the mpg tune I can get 26 mpg driving a little "easier" though. Remember any mpg tune is going to reduce part throttle power. However you will still have the same WOT power as a performance tune. Justin can write you an aggressive mpg tune which is what I'd suggest. Tunes are only $50 so it's hard to go wrong.

I am running the gas millage tune now during the work week , there is less power but under WOT it still moves the trans still has firm shifts between this tune and driving 70MPH or less I have saved a decent amount of gas....havent been able to clock exact millage yeat started the week out on a little less than a full tank

Clar you should post up some mpg figures once you figure them out.

On my last 2007 F-150 Supercrew, I ran Troyer's economy tune with 87 octane, and I could still get better with their performance program with 93 octane - enough to offset the fuel cost and some, while getting some power you could feel when needed. This is highway - not interstate. Interstate, I could find and 18 with cruise on.

That was what I was thinking, I would use more gas trying to compensate for having less power.

I just filled up. MPG averaged out to 16.683
Anybody think econo tune will be able to better that?

Yes, just use the same throttle position as you do now and it'll improve.

Our every day driving has too many variables from traffic, to wind, to our feet being heavier from one day to the next. The only way to truly determine how each tune runs is to take it to the dyno. Can we call MythBusters for this one?

My everyday driving is all local; I get a solid 16.5mpg, 93-octane

Not that hard to believe i got around the same gas mileage with a 4cly as i did with a 6cly cause with the 4 i was flooring it everywhere just to get up to speed.

It's a little different that just that. I can assure everyone that a gas mileage tune is going to give you better mileage. Otherwise no one would buy them and the cat would be out of the bag already about it.
