Troyer vs Others

I was wondering what exactly troyer does to trucks that makes him worth while. What exactly does he change. Before I got my truck sniper tuned, I called troyer and asked about cam timing and they said they didnt think so but would gladly sell me a programmer and I can see for myself. It doesnt feel very custom to me. Since he just changes things for your truck that you tell him. But what if your truck is running rich or lean? How does he know exactly how much to alter your truck. I know people are happy with it, but I am just wonderign how your truck is "custom" if it is just the same as everyone elses.

For instance. When I got my truck tuned, it took two trips to the guys house. We did the 87 tune the first time, and the second trip I got the 93 tune. We rode around for an hour, and tested out probably 5 different tunes for the 87, and 4 for the 93. We were testing with my CAM Timing and it seemed to help. When he fixed my truck from running rich, he had to watch these 2 special numbers to determin at what range it was running rich. How does troyer manage that?

The people who go with Troyer do so because he has the most experience tuning F150s, bottom line. Whether his tunes are better than anyone else's is completely opinion. Hopefully this thread doesn't turn into a Troyer vs. XXXXXXX argument.

To answer your question, You rode around with a guy and tried several different tunes, and tuned it accordingly. Both VMP, and Troyer have the Exp, on the front end to just about get it Dead **** On... but to be sure, that's why both tell you to Data Log, and send them the information. That allows them to (ride along in the truck with us) by what they see from the information they can tweak it here and there to make it spot on!

That's how they do the custom tunes!

Hope that explains it well enough....

Talking

as i havent had all the tuners tunes i have had two of them. i went with troyer first. i had some warranty issues that were resolved. after the warranty issues were resolved i went to justin at vmp due to time and money. after getting justins tunes i will keep his tunes forever. imo i like justins better than troyers tunes. but that is my opinion. i believe that others have been happy with his tuning as well. go vmp.

Any competent tuner who has alot of experience is going to hand you back a completely different feeling truck. If you're worried about rich/lean conditions, once you have your tunes, datalog, or hop on a dyno and send the results back to the tuner so they can adjust things if they need to be.

It’s hands down Troyer; read the years and years of posts; he goes back, way back, and it all good

Exactly why I went with Troyer. Someone who specializes in tuning F150's or someone who specializes in tuning Mustangs. You make the choice.

Exactly why I didn't post ... Figures.

Any GOOD tuner knows the basics of what each vehicle can take as far as tuning. He'll be able to make tweaks to your preference as well as your modifications. Usually the tunes won't need any adjustments but if they do he'll be able to see them and make corrections once viewing your datalogs. A true custom tune needs to be on the dyno, plain and simple.

But....but....but....thats a Mustang! That doesn't mean they know how to tune a truck!

There are lots of good tuners, this board just seems to be enamored with TP. I have an XCall II from them, truck runs like it should, makes the power it should, I have no problem with TP's tuning. That being said I'm dumping them for someone else as I need some updates and an 8 week wait is a bunch of crap and not at all acceptable to me, I need someone who can provide better service than that. Whoever is about to reply "its worth the wait" please spare me, there is no magic locked away in the little box that runs the engine, any competent tuner can set you up.
