Edge & Spark Advance

I came here since Edge customer service either doesn't know their stuff or just doesn't want to help. I originally called to ask what i should set my timing on when i'm running the tow tune and running 93 octane. he told me i shouldn't be doing a custom tune only if i had a really custom vehicle and that's the only answer he would give, which obviously didn't answer my question. in the manual it says .5 for every octane count. so i should be bumping my timing +3. i am def not above sea level i'm in new orleans. what should my spark advance read during idle, cruise and WOT? i hear some people bump it up .5 til they hear pinging. i have never heard pinging so not sure what i should be looking for so that's why i don't do that.
thanks

You can go up 2-3 safely, no problems, My 98 4.6 reads 30 right before the shift, idle it bounces all around 13-19 I believe, and cruise is 23-28. The modular engines are silent when it comes to detonation, so don't rely on that, very few ever hear them until its too late. But the manual is correct .5 per octane.

You should be safe with the +3. You do not want to hear pinging. You can be running too lean before ever hearing it, but if you do hear it, you KNOW you are too lean.

Yes I did. I was pretty happy with the canned tunes. Ran the level 3 primarily with 93 octane for about 36,000 miles. The level 2 canned program didn't work too well for me as I needed power in the upper rpms for passing on 2 lane roads and for responsiveness on crowed, high speed, freeways. I told Bill that I wanted to be able to downshift at any speed up to about 70 mph. He gave it to me, and it's great. I got the 87 Performance and the 93 Performance while retaining the canned 87 for towing. I can now run the 87 Performance quite happily and save the difference in gas. I will pay for the custom tunes in about 5 months, with the savings.

What are you talking about? When modular engines knock it sounds like you are dropping tiny rocks at 60mph.
