Do I need tuning?

Hi, I'm planning on purchasing a 2008 Ford F-150 FX4 5.4L v8 SuperCrew and I'm a bit curious as to what benefits I could hope to receive with a Troyer Performance custom tuned X3 tuning. A few specs of my near future daily driver truck would ideally include..

6" ProComp Stage 1 lift

20" ProComp Series 7005 wheels

35"x12.50" ProComp Extreme A/T tires

Magnaflow SIDO rear exit cat-back system

AF1 intake 3.5"

I don't plan on using this truck for much more than driving around town (mostly in city), and have made the previous selections based on exterior appeal, in addition to slight performance increases. A question about the air intake though, I'm not a 100% sure whether I should need the 3" or the 3.5"? Furthermore, do I actually need a tune, or will my truck run efficiently enough as is taking into consideration the mods I have chosen.

Thanks in advance, I hope you can help!

I'm just curious how well tuning it will make it perform? I've heard that simply resetting the original computer by disconnecting the battery would be sufficient enough to calibrate for CAI and exhaust mods?

If you put the AF1 3.5" CIA on, you will need it tuned anyway.

Do you want better fuel economy? More power? Better throttle response? Quicker and firmer shifts?

a tune would not be neccessary in your case unless your looking to maximize the mods on your truck.. it wouldnt be dangerous if you dont tune it

Question

Basically I'd be satisfied with the truck the way it drives stock, but I figure if I'm gonna lift it and put new tires on it, I might as well have add a nice exhaust and air intake. I was just curious as to the obvious benefits of tuning, and how well it will enhance my mods. Will it noticeably increase my accelleration? I'm looking around at the Troyer website and the X3 is near $450, is this the right unit I should be looking at?

Yep, if you do not mind the wait... I am very pleased with mine. I went with Troyer due to the volume that he puts them out, and no one has complained about the quality... but many have complained with the 10 week wait.

I would not get the 3.5" cai. go with a 3".
I have a 3.5" and I believe that is what caused my terrible drone issue.

I dont think it matters with regard to size... Some like the drone... I just live with it.

what exactly is drone? why would they sell the 3.5 " for the 5.4L and it not work properly? the 3.0" is for the 4.6L right? anywho, any other comments on the AF1 intake?

I would go throw some 4.11's or 4.56's in..then worry about the tune

It does work. I believe the 3.5" AF1 requires the aftermarket tune, though.

If you're going to get a 3.5" AF1, you're going to need a tune. You could get the 3.0" and no tune though. However I'd stick with the 3.5" and a custom 93 octane tune.
