Modifications to 07 Screw
A couple weeks ago I made the trip from Kansas City to Covington, VA. I met up with the guys at Troyer on the afternoon of the 10th to drop the truck off etc. I was to have the dual electric fans installed, underdrive pulleys, and tuned with the typical 3 custom tunes that everyone always talks about, 87 / 93 / 87 Towing. I also had the fuel filter and plugs changed out. Originally I was not aware of the characteristics of the stock plugs, but once educated I thought, why not. It's all about preventative maintenance.
I picked the truck up a couple of days later and made the trip back to KC. 910 miles of highway driving. I was most interested in the MPG increase for the drive back. (Keep in mind my truck is lifted 6 inches, however for this trip I had the original 20 inch factory wheels on.)
From KC to VA I averaged 12 MPG, traveling 70 mph the entire way using Shell 87 octane fuel.
After the modifications. From VA to KC I averaged 13 MPG, traveling between 80 - 95 mph the entire way using the same fuel.
Before I would never see mpg numbers any higher than 12.8 - 13.5, even at 55mph. Now I am able to see 15 - 18 mpg after making those modifications.
Acceleration was improved, shifting is more aggressive and I like it alot better. The shift points are perfect. Personally, I don't think it is a night/day difference, but I got the results that I was looking for and yes there is a nice improvement. These trucks are heavy.
I have the dyno sheets, however not with me. Next week I will post the dyno results on this thread.
Hat goes off to Troyer Performance, very smart folks there who know their business and how to treat their customers. I'd make the trip again.
