Voltage Reading on Edge Gauge

What are you Battery Voltage readings that the Edge shows when monitoring the voltage? Mine show between 14.2 and 14.4 when the truck is going down the road and I am curious to what would me normal.

That sounds about right to me. I have a separate voltage gage in my truck and it reads between about 14.1 and 14.5 going down the road as well.

A typical automotive charging system will normally run between 13.8v and 14.2v, but I have see as high as 14.6v and as low as 13.2v.

Any higher and your charging system could ruin your battery and *maybe* damage some electronics (most electronics are regulated so this isn't likely).

Any lower and you are not adequately charging your battery. Low output can also be a sign of excessive load on the charging system, including a damaged or sulfated battery.

One thing to remember is that the vehicle runs off the alternator, not the battery. The battery is really only used to start the vehicle (or play the radio while tailgating ).

Take care.

Bill
