Edge or Troyer?????

I was wondering which would be the best for me, the only mods I have and planing to make is just putting some 33's M/T on my stockers. I have a 2WD 07 f150 and do not plan on adding anything else, no intake, no exhaust, nothing else at the time. I have about $500 to spare and live in the southern most part of Texas so I dont think I have get my truck dynoed by VMP. Which of the two, Edge or Troyer is best for my needs?

If you're patient and want to wait a few months for tunes, then Troyer. If you want your tunes now and the ability to adjust your tunes the way you want, and add a few extra gauges, then the Edge.

Isn't the edge only about 350 and the troyer 530 plus shipping?

Hmmmm custom tuning or canned tunes? They are roughly the same price, Edge jacked up their price to over $400 last year and a custom tuned Xcal II from Troyer will run you roughly the same amount.

You've had the truck this long without any tuning so what's it matter if you ahve to wait another 2 months to get the best? Go with Troyer.

Dude,

I have the SCT XCal3 with Troyer tunes. I like it. A lot. But I can not give you an objective recommendation since I have never had an Edge or VMP tunes.

I also have an 07 4X2. The mods, like deviant sexual behavior, become addicting. Once you do one, you want to do another. It's like you're never satisfied, you can't quit, and you crave the next.

I started with, of all things, a tool box. A plastic tool box. Why? It was the right price & I needed to store my junk. Then it just got out of hand - in this order:
  • Line-X Spray On Bedliner
  • Whelen Headlight Wig Wag
  • Whelen Brake/Reverse Light Flasher
  • Whelen Siren
  • Whelen Speaker
  • Streamlight SL-20X
  • Truxedo Tonneau Cover
  • Go Rhino! Grille Guard
  • Go Rhino! Nerf Bars
  • Airaid Cold Air Intake
  • 40 Series Muffler
  • Auto Vent Shade
  • blind spot mirrors
  • cip on convex rear view mirror
  • Royal Purple 5W20 Motor Oil
  • K&N Oil Filter
  • Royal Purple ATF
  • Royal Purple 75W90 Max Gear Oil
  • Royal Purple 'Purple Ice' Super Coolant
  • Pro Comp Coil Spring Spacer
  • Pro Comp Add-A-Leaf
  • SCT XCal3 w/ Mike Troyer Performance Custom Tunes
  • Bully Racing Pedals
  • Mike Troyer Performance Electric Fan Drop In Kit

Consider that in my case, I have owned the car less than six months & there is less than six thousand miles on the clock.

I just made my final payment & the car is all mine. No lien holder. So all that money that I spent on car payments can now go into more mods.

Is there a limit? Who knows. I still want:
  • trans cooler
  • underdrive pulley
  • Hella Lights grille with Xenon Driving Lights
  • fog lamps
  • Unity 330GM 245,000 Candlepower Spotlights
  • fog lights
  • front hitch receiver
  • rear hitch receiver
  • headers
  • high flow cats
  • a flux capacitor
  • something cute to hang from the rear view mirror
  • an air freshener
  • stickers to make my car go as fast as a Honda with a lot of stickers
  • rims
  • tires
  • lift kit
  • roll cage
  • Hello Kitty bobble head

et cetera.

I have given this a ton of thought and I have spoke with all the players: Banks, Troyer, VMP and Bill/Edge.

At the end of the day, I believe all the custom tunes are all relatively close. Lets face it guys, these are not diesels and there are only so many levers that can be pulled here.

For myself, I have decided to go with an Edge with a set of custom tunes from Bill. I like the additional features of the programmer, the support that Bill provides and I do not have to wait 3 months for a custom tune.

... or just get a custom tuned Xcal2 from Justin at www.VMPTuning.com, wait time is about 2 weeks. Most of the time he'll be able to ship them out faster, just depends on how busy he is.

Quick question, I have a warrenty on my truck if I put the edge I can return the truck back to stock wait a couple of days and take it to ford and they'll never know I had a chip. Is this also possible with Troyer? Is it possible to just unplug something and return it back to stock with the dealership finding out about it?

Yes it's the same principle with any programmer, Edge or Xcal3 etc.

My recommendation is TP custom tunes. I've used them since my tuck was new and have never had a problem; reliable & da’bomb
