Just got home from Troyer Performance - Dyno Tune

Just a quick note and I'll elaborate more later as I'm exhausted. Anyway - Mike and the team are class acts and very gracious hosts. Whatever folks may say, say what you will, but I gained an exorbitant amount of understanding of exactly what Mike goes through in creating these custom tunes for our trucks first hand. The man pays so much attention to detail it will make your eyes pop. In point, we must have spent an hour splitting hairs surrounding the decision as to whether or not we apply a specific revision to my tune and what the possible effects may or may not be. Bottom line, you have to see him in action, to really understand and appreciate how much he cares about each and every tune and what gains can be realized across the board, i.e. driveability, reliability, efficiency, flat hp/torque curves, etc. Mike will simply not tune to highest peaks and call it a day. Big numbers always sound good, but as I say, Mike looks at the complete and holistic picture and I mean complete. That's why people he takes longer than what folks expect. Sure, give a call to a competitor who can have tunes in days, maybe hours, but I guarantee you they won't have the level of knowledge, quality, R&D, realiabilty, and specificity that Troyer places in each and every tune SPECIFIC for our trucks. No two trucks are created equal. One custom tune does not fit all. If anyone has the understanding of how often Ford changes strategies on these trucks and how much R & D, datalogging, and testing has to go into each revision, one would have a better appreciation of what Mike put's in these tunes and the amount of time fortunately or unfortunately it can take. Mike is a very intelligent individual and knowing what I know now and what was experienced today, I wouldn't let Ghandi touch my truck Be patient folks, it's worth the wait. If anyone is maybe within 10 to 12 hours of their facility, I highly implore you in making the trip, meet them and see Mike in action. Those folks are truly a family and very much make you feel that you're a part of it. For those who couldn't get in touch with him today, blame me, I had him chained the entire day

Anyway here are my numbers!

I have a Magnaflow 16616 and today added a 3.5 AF1 intake in addition to an XCAL 3 loaded with 3 custom on the dyno tunes.

87 Performance
93 Tow
93 Performance

With these three modifications and pulling on the 93 Tow Tune, my truck laid a best of 256.04 HP and 310 lb/ft torque. Not bad! I was stoked I pulled such great numbers. More importantly and I again emphasize, driveability and power was phenominally improved across the board. These numbers will improve as adaptive strategy completes additional cycles and will also realize improved numbers with the 93 Performance loaded.

Mike, thanks again for your tremendous grace and hospitality today and most importantly waking my truck up from a long dead nap. I'll be back soon for more mods!

I agree that people need to see what an atual tuner goes through while programing vehicles. When my Acura racecar was getting dialed in after the motor build, it spent a good day in the shop getting tuned. Casey (my racecar tuner) made over 50 pulls on the dyno, wasted about 2 sets of spark plugs and burned a 1/2 tank of gas before he was willing to call it good. The first auto-x race after the build, and one thing was clear: a 12.5:1, 2.0L, 9,200rpm tuned motor was a lot of fun!

Where is Troyer Performance located?

Awesome! I am going to be moving to VA in the next year or so... I will definitely make it out to dyno-tune when that time comes.

Just curious here.... What were the dyno numbers before the tuning? Do you have a graph so we could see the stock curve and the tuned curve?

Ah good question, don't know. This was the first time on the dyno with my truck and once it was strapped on, the AF1 was already in place. Baseline numbers before datalogging and tuning was in the 242 hp range. We were at the shop so late last night that I didn't get a change to get all my graphs. I plan on contacting Anita to get copies of all my runs yesterday and will post them.

It's been a few weeks since I have browsed the forums here since I've been toying around with my bike I just took delivery of. Anyway, my 07 Screw Lariat 4x4 (5.4 3v) is a beast.....at guzzling gas. The first day I had it, I replaced the exhaust with a SI/DO Flowmaster 40 series and 2.5" tubing to let it breath a little better. Result = MPG Increase, better sound etc. That wasn't enough so I ordered a 63 series Aircharger by K&N. Result= worse MPG, worse than stock (prior to any mods). Initially I would have expected a slight increase in MPG. Less than a month went by and I installed a 6" Fabtech lift kit, new 20" wheels wrapped with 35x12.5 MT Baja Claws and some Bushwacker Fender Flares. Results=much more aggressive look and even worse MPG. More than a year has gone by and now It's time for Troyer to do some work, once they get back to my email I sent last Wednesday.

I'm in Kansas, do not know of anyone close to me whom I can go to with a good reputation to do the work I want so I will drive to the best folks I know. Troyer. My opinion is based off the information I find in these forums.

I'm going to have the mechanical fan replaced with Troyers dual 16" electric fans, as well as a new set of underdrive pulleys. XCal III with 3 of their custom tunes and after all is said and done, a dyno pull to see what kind of a monster I have created. The obvious result will be more RWHP, torque, and acceleration. What about MPG? Currently I get somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 - 11 MPG with combined highway / city driving.

Awesome! Post some pics! You'll really enjoy the experience getting tuned at their shop. Those folks really take care of you. Fans and pullies will be my next mods as well as soon as my account recovers from my last go around

With the 35's 11mpg I wouldn't think is so bad. I believe Thumper had 35's on his truck so he could speak to what his MPG numbers were.

I had 37s and was able to get 13 mpg. I had 35s on my 2004 F150 and was able to pull 15 mpg, crazy enough as that sounds.
